Financial Aid and Scholarship Information

The Scholarship Hunt:

There are many resources for students searching for financial aid and it is important to make use of them all. One of the most effective tools students can use in their search is the internet. Searching the web can help students locate a wide range of scholarship programs for which they may be qualified. Students should concentrate their online search for programs most closely associated with their field of study, financial status and cultural or ethnic background. Students can also contact the financial aid department of the college they will be attending for information on available scholarships. The local library is also another great source for scholarship information.

Scholarship Resources:

In addition to checking specific college and university websites for scholarship information, students can utilize the following resources to start their scholarship search:

1. Students should periodically check the high school's webpage under "daily announcements" for a running list of local scholarships and other opportunities.

2. Students should periodically check their Naviance account for a list of local scholarships and national scholarships. Local scholarships are listed in the "colleges" tab in the "scholarship list" link. National scholarships are located in the "national scholarship search" link.

3. Students should review scholarships offered through the Community Foundation of Boone County. Please take a minute to read the FAQs below before beginning a scholarship application.

4. Students can contact the financial aid department of the college they might be attending for information on scholarship programs available through the college or degree program.

5. Students should ask parents/guardians to check with their place of employment to determine whether there are scholarships offered to children of employees. Students who work should also check with their own employer about scholarship opportunities.

6. Students should check for scholarship opportunities offered by community agencies which they are involved; such as service organizations, religious organizations, civic organizations, etc.

7. There are many scholarship search resources available online. A few are listed below. Students and family should be aware of scholarship scams and should NEVER have to pay for a scholarship search.
