The WJHS Panther Update
May 6, 2022
Principal's Letter
Panther Families,
From the entire Panther staff, we would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to our PTO and parents for coordinating such an incredibly generous week of appreciation! Not only are we filled with delicious treats, we are filled with gratitude for the care & effort that went into it. We have thoroughly enjoyed gathering in the lounge again and taking a moment to visit with each other like we used to pre-pandemic - that is truly the best gift! THANK YOU for making us all feel so special!
Spring iReady assessments will be given next week on Tuesday & Thursday mornings. Please be sure to have your student get a good night's rest, eat something for breakfast, & bring their fully charged Chromebook.
We are excited to be able to host a live Spring Concert again! Our Band & Choir students will be performing on May 10th at 7pm at the High School auditorium. We hope that you will join us in celebrating their musical talents and hard work this year!
SPRING HAS SPRUNG, and so have 6th grader, Simon's, DuPage 4-H project eggs! We are so impressed with all of the hard work and dedication that Simon has put into this project. He wrote to the Farm Bureau and requested a 4-H grant to purchase a webcam and materials, created a website to share his findings, and even quickly set up a Zoom meeting to share some of the hatching action with his classmates & teachers. Read about the details of his current project along with some adorable pictures of the cute, little fluffy ones that have already arrived. Be sure to check back in and visit his live stream page for some of the hatching excitement (due next Tuesday), and the next “big” hatch which will be ducklings around the 17th! Fun fact: Simon used to help set up the incubators at South, Manning, Holy Trinity, and Twin Lakes. He also brought in his chickens to help with a classroom poultry presentation and answer questions. Keep up the amazing work, Simon, and thank you for sharing it with all of us!
8th Grade Parents: Graduation will be held at the High School at 7:00 pm on 5/26. Weather permitting, it will be held outside on the football field. Should there be inclement weather expected, it will be held in the High School auditorium. The decision on which location will be made the morning of 5/26 & then communicated to parents. Each graduate will receive 4 tickets and their gown on 5/25 at the graduation practice. School fees should be paid in full & school books turned in prior to receiving tickets.
LAST CALL: 8th grade parents, don't miss out on including your student in the graduation slide show! Email msica1114@gmail.com by May 8th with 3 photos of your graduate - one as a baby, one in Jr. High, and one of your choice - (Be sure to note "WJH 8th Grade Graduation" in the email subject line).
IMPORTANT: 8th-Grade students who have not completed their SSLC hours for this year (15 total) will not be allowed to participate in our dance or graduation ceremonies. There is still time and opportunities left to volunteer. Please ask Ms. Quattrone for more details.
Step Up to WJHS Summer School Program: This class, for incoming 6th graders, will be held at the Jr. High on August 8th & 9th from 8:30-11:30 am, and the cost is $30.00. Cash or checks made payable to CUSD201 should be turned into the Jr. High office no later than May 19th. Taught by WJHS teachers, this class will support the transition to the Junior High with a primary emphasis on academic organization skills, familiarity with the building layout, and introductions to building procedures. Bus transportation will be provided if needed. More information about bus pick up/drop off will be sent to you at a later time. The registration form was emailed to 5th grade parents this past Monday.
The District is continuing optional Weekly Covid-19 Testing through Northshore Labs. There is no cost for the test. If you are interested in your child participating, click the link to register. Testing for Jr. High students takes place on Monday mornings.
