The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board held a public meeting on Monday, Oct. 7. The following are select highlights from that meeting.
West Linn-Wilsonville Chinese Teachers Recognized
West Linn-Wilsonville Middle School Chinese Teachers and Interns were recognized by the School Board on Monday night. Coming to the West Linn-Wilsonville School District from all across China, WLWV middle school students have long benefitted from some of the best Chinese Teachers in Oregon. Recognized Teachers included:
- Dai Liping, Athey Creek Middle School Teacher
- Li Shuang, Athey Creek Middle School Intern
- Bao Dongmei, Rosemont Ridge Middle School Teacher
- Wenyu Zhang, Rosemont Ridge Middle School Teacher
- Meng Yang, Meridian Creek Middle School Teacher
- Tian Jin, Wood Middle School Teacher
District Staff Provides Classroom Cultures Update
District staff provided the Board with an update on Classroom Cultures in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, primarily at the primary level. Assistant Superintendents Jennifer Spencer-Iiams and David Pryor shared how schools are integrating high-leverage practices into instruction, including identifying escalation in individual students and how to ensure safe and welcoming learning environments for all students. Staff shared how schools have worked closely with the District's IT Department to track new data around classroom learning and behavior, optimizing outcomes for students while improving and diversifying the skillsets of teachers throughout the district. School Board members noted the importance of the work, asking questions about the impact of student behaviors on classrooms. Watch the entire presentation on the District Website.
Board Receives Enrollment Update
Superintendent Dr. Kathy Ludwig provided an enrollment update during the Oct. 7 meeting. Current 2019-20 Enrollment numbers show continued growth at the secondary level in West Linn and at the primary level in Wilsonville. The District also continues to experience organic growth across the District. 2019-20 Enrollment will continue to be finalized during the month of October and posted to the District Website. Upcoming Events
Primary School Conferences: October 9 — There will be no school for PRIMARY only in recognition of conferences.
Primary/Middle Conferences: October 10 — There will be no school for PRIMARY and MIDDLE only in recognition of conferences.
NO SCHOOL, statewide in-service day: October 11 — There will be no school for all levels on Friday, Oct. 11.
Early Release, Professional Growth Wednesday: October 23 — Wednesday, Oct. 23 is an Early Release, Professional Growth Wednesday for ALL schools. School will release 2 hours early.
