October Newsletter

From the Principal

Dear Mari-Linn Friends,

October has been a very busy month at Mari-Linn. We celebrated Red Ribbon Week, went to the pumpkin patch and completed our first quarter of school. The temperature outside has dropped significantly. Please remind students that they may want to dress appropriately. It is not always easy to regulate the temperature in this building. Layering is highly suggested. Remember that this weekend is the last time we will turn our clocks back by one hour on Sunday, November 3rd. . In the spring we will go forward. Monday, November 4th is still delayed start with school starting at 8:45.

Our school received a very generous donation of 3 drinking fountains from II-S Mechanical. Students now have access to filtered water bottle filling stations in two hallways. Kids are encouraged to bring their non-breakable water bottles to fill and keep hydrated throughout the day.

Mrs. Trott started a new competition this year. Students entered into a pumpkin decorating contest. Pumpkins were painted, hot glued and dressed as beloved book characters. The results were amazing. We had everything from the Mona Lisa to Clifford to Pigeon. It was a ton of fun and I hope to see even more next year.

Our parade and carnival were highly successful this year. It is important to thank our community helpers: STR, Break the Chain, Lyons Fire Department, Silverton Elks, Linn County Sheriff’s Department, Squatchy’s BBQ and all our families. Without our families and friends this annual tradition would not be as successful.

This Friday, students have the day off of school so teachers can prepare report cards for conferences on November 4th & 5th. Parents of middle school students may pick up their report cards in the front hall starting at 3:00. Middle school teachers will be available in the cafeteria for conferencing from 3:00-7:00. Teachers K-5 have scheduled individual conferences. While you are here for conferences, be sure to check out the Book Fair.

Have an incredible November.
