February Newsletter

Indy Learning Center, Grades K-8

Welcome to the Hoosier Academy Newsletter

Greetings Hoosier Families! Thank you for allowing us to continue to serve you and your students! Each week we come to school and see growth academically, socially, and emotionally with our students. Our staff and teams work closely with each family to ensure a safe and successful environment for our students. We are seeing behaviors improve with the implementation/continuation of our Cobra Action Plan, and appreciate your support in emphasizing good behavior with your students. We are navigating through the second semester and beginning preparation for the state mandated testing windows that are coming up. Students in Grades 3-8 are learning valuable test prep skills in addition to reviewing important concepts they have been covering throughout the year to help them on both ILEARN (Grade 3-8) and IREAD (Grade 3). Please continue to ask your students what they are learning each day and in what ways they were kind to others!

Best Regards,

Principal Miranda Tolentino

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders

We have noticed an increase of students who are either arriving late to school, or consistently being picked up past the dismissal time of school. As a reminder the following are the school's arrival and dismissal times:

Arrival 7:45 a.m. with students are counted late as of 8:00 a.m.

Dismissal 4:30 - 4:45 p.m.

Arrival 8:00 a.m. with students counted late after 8:15 a.m.

Dismissal 3:30-3:45

If a student is late arriving to school, or being picked up to dismiss early, a parent or guardian MUST come into the building to sign their student in/out. All students must be picked up on time in order to facilitate the best use of the school day and the planning time of our teachers.

Please be respectful of our staff's time and dedication to providing the best education for your student by getting them here on time and picking them up on time as well. If you have questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact the school directly.

Cobra Action Plan for Behavior

All Hoosier Academy students will begin using the Cobra Action Plan for behavior in conjunction with our Student Code of Conduct which begins on page 80 of our school handbook. Emails went out to families with the plan attached, and you can find a copy of it and the handbook linked below as well. If you have any questions, please contact the school.

Attendance Matters

Attendance reminder – As a reminder, it is up to the Learning Coach to input attendance for virtual days. These days count toward the mandatory attendance rule and if your student accumulates 10 unexcused absences, they can be referred to truancy court.

Need to talk with your student's teacher?

If you would like to speak to your student's teacher, please schedule an appointment with them. Many times parents want to pop in a few minutes early at pick up or stay a bit after drop off, and teachers are unavailable due to teaching their classes. To guarantee that your concern gets the attention it deserves, an appointment is the best way to ensure your needs are being met. If you have questions, please contact the school.

WOW awards

WOW awards – We continue to see WOW awards being given to students for work completion, positive attitudes and making good choices! Please make sure to ask your student what a WOW award is if you don’t know, and how many they have earned!

You should have received an email regarding our Photo Release form. Please fill out the form ONLY if you do NOT want photos, videos or audio of your student used on social media and our website. If you do not fill out the form, you are GIVING PERMISSION for us to use photos, videos and/or audio of your student to showcase our school.
