Winter Holiday Edition
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Students, Faculty, and Parents,
I hope that everyone enjoys their well deserved breaks, from our students to their families, to our staff and teachers! It was an amazing first semester and I am excited to see where 2018 takes all of us! We finished out the semester with a STEAM Career Day for our 8th Grade through High School students. We also held the Elementary Awards Ceremony to celebrate all of our wonderful Elementary students and their achievements during the first semester! We had an amazing turnout and want to thank all of the parents and extended family that were able to make it to the event! It was wonderful to see everyone and to meet even more of our students incredible families!
We also got to celebrate a couple of our students for their work towards the Art Calendar Contest for the Department of Public Works Water Resources Division. Be sure to read about these students and their accomplishments below! One of these winners now has a day named after them! Speaking of students accomplishments, congratulations to a number of our Middle School Students who were selected for the GISA All-Select Middle School Band! You can see all of these students listed below in the Student Spotlight Section!
I also want to take a moment to recognize our Student Council who hosted a Benefit Gala in order to support North Fulton Community Charities! They organized a wonderful event with many fun activities, musical performances by some of our students, and an art gallery of student work! It was a wonderful event and a great way to give back to the community! Thank you to our Student Council for Sponsoring this event!
We also finished out the last week by holding our Middle School Dance put on by our amazing MSO! Thank you for all of the hard work that you all do for our school! It is above and beyond the call of duty and more appreciated than you may know!
I want to wish everyone happy holidays and a happy new year as we make our way into the next semester! It has been a fun year and I see nothing but great things coming up!

Please also inform your friends, co-workers, and relatives who live in Georgia; they can also participate and help support our school.

6th Annual Statewide Math Geniuses Competition Results
6th Annual Statewide Math Geniuses Competition was successfully hosted at Fulton Science Academy on Dec 10th, Sunday afternoon for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of Georgia.
We thank the parents and the teachers of our participants for making this competition possible and competitive, for their work and skills were displayed and represented by their students and kids. We also thank our hardworking volunteers, who took time out during their weekend before finals, to accommodate competitors into our classes and facilitating the long and arduous process. Participating students enjoyed discussion sessions for solutions that were hosted in classrooms by FSA Middle and High School Math Team students and FSA Alumni.
Trophies were awarded to the top 10 performers in each grade level. Top three performers overall among all 6th, 7th and 8th grade participants were awarded 1st, 2nd 3rd place medals for their outstanding performance. FSA students were not included in overall performance awards.
All three grades took the same test and each student's result was compared to the rest of their grade level and ties were broken by the order of difficulty of the questions. Contest questions were ordered in ascending order of difficulty and any student who missed harder question first, lost the tie.
Once again, congratulations to all winners & thank you all for attending this competition. Looking forward to see you next year, to share the love of math again together!

Character Ed Trait for December is Kindness
I love this saying! Being kind is so easy, yet so rare. It's more than letting a friend borrow a pencil; it's letting them borrow the pencil and offering a pat on the back or words of encouragement. Knowing that others are going through the same things as you makes us feel more human. Acknowledging this to those who are struggling is an act of kindness. Encourage your child to be kind with their words and their actions.
-Mrs. Cantrell
Let's go to costa rica
Students must be 6th grade and up. If you are interested in knowing more about this program, please speak to Mrs. Carmona.
Home Visits - A Fun Way to meet your teachers!
Home visits are a casual way for your child to spend time with his/her teacher in the comfort of their home. Teachers enjoy having a chance to see children in this comfortable environment, doing whatever makes them most happy and spend time with children and their parents outside of a regular school day.
Simply email junal@fultonscienceacademy.org with some suggested dates/times, as well as your students' name(s) and homeroom assignments. Ms. Unal will be in touch to confirm final details.
