FIRST GRADE NEWS
August 29 - September 2
WE MADE IT THROUGH THE FIRST FULL WEEK OF FIRST GRADE!!
Classroom Volunteers
I need parent and/or grandparent volunteers for our class parties. We only have two parties per year, Christmas and Easter. We also need a person to be the Teacher Appreciation Contact Person. If you are able to help with any or all of these, please email me your name. Thank you!!
Bible
We have worked hard this week learning about Creation and Adam and Eve eating the fruit and having to leave the Garden of Eden. Their Creation Books will come home next week.
Next week we are learning about the first family and Cain and Abel. Our memory verse for next week is Psalm 119:30a - "I have chosen the way of faithfulness.".
Math
We are working on our numbers 0 - 20. This is all in preparation for starting addition, which we will begin after Labor Day. We are learning how to compare numbers and using Ten Frames to determine how many more a number is than 10.
Reading and Language Arts
We will start work in our readers next week! I have read with each of your students in order to place them in a reading group. They are excited to start in their books!
We are working on distinguishing the beginning sounds of words and reviewing our color words. There are words going up on our Word Wall and they all have suggestions on how Mrs. Forsythe can get the words higher on the wall. We have decided a step stool is much better than climbing the cubbies or jumping and slapping the wall.
Labor Day Weekend
We have an early release day Friday, September 2nd. We will dismiss at 12:30 and there is NO AFTERCARE. There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 5th. Enjoy the long weekend!!
