SHS Weekly Newsletter #23
2/17/22
Message from Mr. Mitchell
Our winter activities are quickly wrapping up and I would encourage two things for students and families during this time. First, if you have not had the opportunity to attend a school event, now is great time with athletic playoffs, performing arts competitions, Bowmen Pageant, and many other events happening in in the next few weeks. Second, SHS prides itself on having many options for students to become involved and connect with the school community. If you student has not done so yet this year, the spring is a great time to join a club, be on a sports team (track is a no-cut sport), audition for a theater performance, etc. Our website contains information about the offerings that are available this spring, or a student can check-in with any of our staff.
Have a great weekend, and Go Bowmen!
Mr. Mitchell

Pre-ACT Coming on March 16th & 17th
Sherwood High School will offer all 10th grade students an opportunity to take the Pre-ACT exam on Thursday, March 16th (Last Names A-K) and Friday, March 17th (Last Names L-Z). There is no registration fee.
The Pre-ACT is a multiple choice exam that familiarizes students with the ACT. Mirroring the style of the official college entrance exam, this paper-based test features questions in four subject areas: English/language arts, math, reading, and science. Click here for more information about the Pre-ACT.
Testing will occur at the Sherwood School District Office - 21920 Southwest Sherwood Boulevard, Sherwood, OR 97140, and begin promptly at 9AM. Shuttle buses will be provided from SHS to the district office, and lunch will be provided when students return to SHS.
Students are automatically registered for the Pre-ACT. Families interested in opting-out of the Pre-ACT can complete this form to remove registration. Families need to opt their students out of the Pre-ACT by Friday, March 10th or students will be expected to participate in the exam.
Girls State Opportunity for Current Juniors
Our local AFW Women's Auxiliary has offered to sponsor the participation fees for two SHS juniors for Girls State in Washington State this summer. Oregon has decided not to participate so there won't be an opportunity for our students to participate closer to home.
Female high school students who have completed their junior year are competitively selected and sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary units for this program, where they learn about the political process by electing officials for all levels of state government and actively running a mock government. The girls are assigned to mock cities and either the “Federalist Party” or “Nationalist Party.” Candidates should be keenly interested in government and current events, and show strong leadership abilities.
Girls State will be held at Central Washington University, June 11th-17th 2023. Applicants will be responsible for their own travel to and from the event.
If your student is interested in applying for this program, please have them talk to their school counselor before May 1st.
