Dear Parents/Caregivers,

I would like to acknowledge your efforts and support and the efforts of our teaching and support staff and the staff of the Ministry of Education (MoE), in supporting our students and their learning at home over these difficult and challenging times during the Covid lockdown period.

As you are aware, the government has announced that New Zealand currently remains at Alert Level 4 but we here in Taranaki will move from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3 at 11.59pm on Tuesday August 31st, 2021.

This pending change will have implications for both early childhood centres and schools once Level 3 begins.

At Level 3 this means that all children and young people who can stay at home, should stay at home and continue to access their distance learning at home.

If your child has a health condition that means that they are at a greater risk of a severe illness or they are sick you must keep them at home.

Please be assured that the school will continue to support your child’s distance or online learning at home.

These restrictions mean that most school children will remain at home during Level 3.

In order to ensure the safety of those children and staff who do come to school, the school will be operating with strict enforcement of health and safety measures. This will require the complete co-operation of every student.

The school appreciates your co-operation in this matter and we urge you to reinforce with your children the need to follow all guidelines to help us to eliminate Covid. This includes washing their hands for at least 20 seconds and often; sneezing or coughing into the elbow; and maintaining social distancing from others.

The Ministry of Health has advised that students are not required to wear masks at school -

They have advised against the use of face coverings for a range of reasons, most particularly because face coverings that are handled incorrectly or are moved around can present a greater risk than no covering.

Those who choose to wear face coverings will continue to be supported to do so.

Our contact tracing systems will be in place, which includes our attendance register and visitor register, and we will be limiting staff onsite with the majority of our team working from home.

Ministry-operated school bus services will operate.

Face coverings are not required on school transport.

This includes charter buses hired by the school to transport students and staff. Anyone who chooses to wear a face covering in any setting should be supported to do so. Face coverings are not required on school buses because schools know who is on school transport and have good systems in place to identify potential close contacts.

If you have not contacted your child's class teacher as to your intention as to whether your child will return to school please do so now.

The school will be in contact with you via email, text or phone or facebook over the next two days to ask you questions to help with the planning needs of the school to prepare for the Level 3 restrictions that will be effective for schools from Wednesday September 1st, 2021.

Stay home, stay safe, be kind and kind regards.

Nga mihi,

Neryda Sullivan

Information for Students and their Parents

Students should stay home if they are able.

If your child needs to attend school please let us know. We will then contact you prior to Wednesday 1st September to let you know what bubble your child will be in. They will need to follow the protocols outlined for their bubble. Only students that have let us know they will be attending school should arrive at school on Wednesday 1st September. This is so that we can prepare thoroughly for the students attending.

Siblings will be placed in the same bubble.

Students must stick to their bubble and follow school protocols, failure to do so will mean staff will need to get students collected by parents or caregivers.

We will be operating three bubbles at school. One in Rm 8, one in Rm 6 and one in Rm 4. These bubbles will not interact with each other.
