Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
Ahoy, Pirates!
That's it! It's a wrap! All the credit goes to.......YOU!! It is hard to believe that our year comes to an end this week. On the surface, it appears that COVID-19 has stolen our last moments from us. However, I see it in a different way. COVID-19 solidified some things for us. During this test of our culture, we now know how deep our commitment to our children runs. We now know how much we mean to each other and to our children. We know that our community is with us when times are tough. We know that we are capable of delivering high-quality instruction to children in new and exciting ways! I hope your capes are flying high because for so many, you have been heroes!
I wish I could say that we will go back to "normal" next year, but we all know that we will be forever changed by the events of this worldwide pandemic. We have been stretched beyond our classroom and office walls. We have been in 1,217 homes and visited almost as many yards, and we celebrated our children and each other in unforgettable ways. It has indeed been a labor of love.
Where were you on 9-11? Do you remember? Where were you during Hurricane Katrina? Do you remember? Where were you Saturday, March 14, 2020, when you got the word that school would be closing? You will remember the moment when the world stood still for an invisible enemy and we retired to our homes to save each other. What I will remember the most is how you came out and confronted fear. You sent a resounding message that Pirate Nation was alive and well. You sent the message that we had no intention of surrendering!
With each new challenge, you found a way over it! You were brilliant , and it shone through for all to see. What a privilege it is to work alongside educators who thrive under pressure. Thank you for leaning in when the world was saying stop! Next year will be even better - of that I am sure. Enjoy your summer! Above all else - stay safe!
To our team members who are leaving, I wish you well. I pray your time with us has added to your life in meaningful ways. To our retirees, Mrs. Debbie Bebler, Mrs. Ann Smith, and Ms. Meridith Bang, thank you for your tireless efforts to ensure we continued to meet our mission. Thank you for believing in our work and most importantly our children. We love you!
I leave you with this thought from Joshua J. Marine, "Challenges are what make life interesting, overcoming them is what makes life meaningful."
Stay tuned for summer learning fun and graduation! With that, I submit the final Captain's Log for the 2019-2020 school year. #nosurrender #2020vision #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot cje

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate!
PLANNING FOR OUR FUTURE
Mrs. Cooper has invited several teachers to review three learning management systems (Blackboard, Canvas, and ItsLearning) for our use during the 20-21 school year. It is our aim to be able to offer online learning that is more efficient and easy to use for teachers, students, admin, and parents. One platform also means parents with children from multiple schools will understand how to access student work and lessons and how to seek and receive feedback from teachers in a consistent way. If you have been selected, please respond to Thursday's email by following the link included in the email.
What is a learning management system (LMS)? A learning management system (LMS) automates the administration, testing, tracking, and reporting of learner progress through online courses.
SAIL-A-BRATION TIME!
PIRATE CARE: Childcare Program for FaculStaff
From Last Week: We cannot think of reopening in hybrid fashion without thinking of your needs as families. With each variation of school opening, there is a growing concern for childcare for our employees - especially in the scenarios that require us to layer in our student population. If you will have childcare needs of PreK 4-8th grade child, Pirate Leaner or not, please complete the survey below using the provided link or via the QR code. We will use the information to develop an in-district childcare program that will give your children an opportunity to complete their online assignments or log-in remotely under the guidance of the district in a camp-like environment.
STUDENT LUNCHES
This will be our final week of the regular feeding program. We are working on plans for the summer program, which will coincide with our summer learning plans beginning June 1, 2020.
Thanks to our amazing Cafe' staff and you, we have served 40,924 meals to children age zero-18 years of age! We appreciate all who have volunteered to provide meals to our children during the closing of our buildings. We are forever grateful to you for your service. If you have not worked this program over the last two months, this is your chance to join the team. Sign up below.

NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM MSBA
The most important piece to note is as follows: "On Thursday, May 14, 2020, Governor Reeves signed Executive Order 1484. The order directs state agencies, boards, commissions, counties, municipalities, public school districts, and other state and local entities to begin the process of returning employees whose duties were deemed non-essential back to work, subject to controlling law and the Mississippi State Department of Health’s and the Center for Disease Control’s regulations, orders, and guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. To read a copy of the order, click here." See paragraph one (1).
Beginning June 1, 2020, all extended-year employees (those on contracts and letters of agreement that are longer than 187 days) will report back to work on your regular schedule. This would include, instructional coaches, secondary counselors, administrators, secretaries, bookkeepers, cafeteria workers for summer programs, and central office employees. Further, we will resume our regular pay scale for all hourly personnel reporting to work at that time.
