2nd Grade Newsletter

November 30 - December 4

Welcome Back!

We hope that everyone had a wonderful and restful week with family. The next three weeks before our Winter Break are going to filled with lots of learning and fun!

Student of the Week

Math

This week in math we are working on adding 3 digit numbers and we will end the week with introducing subtracting 3 digit numbers. The students will also be MAP testing this week.

We will continue to take our math facts tests. The state expectation for second grade is that the students know these facts with automaticity. The students are using the program FASSTMath at school to practice each day.

Language Arts & Social Studies

This week's spelling pattern is r-controlled vowels.


We will be reading the fiction story, Abuelo and the Three Bears and focusing on the comprehension strategy of summarizing. We will also spend some time working with idioms and learning how to revise our writing to make our sentences better.


In Social Studies, the students will be learning about diversity and culture and its importance in our community.

Science

We are continuing our unit on health. During this unit the students will understand and communicate the importance of health. They will also learn how to create safe plans/ tips for dangerous situations and how to develop a healthy meal.

PACE

If you would like to have your child assessed for possible placement in the PACE (Plano Academic and Creative Education) program, please complete and return a referral packet by 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 9.
