New Youth Services Center Coordinator Announced
Bowling Green Junior High has selected Dana Beasley-Brown as Youth Service Center Coordinator. Robert Lightning made the official announcement in an email to faculty and staff on Friday, November 22, 2019.
Ms. Beasley-Brown is currently serving in the Youth Services Center at Bowling Green Junior High as the Interim Coordinator after serving the last three years as the Assistant Coordinator.
Prior to her time at the Junior High, Ms. Beasley-Brown worked for over a decade with FRYSCs as a community partner to empower students and families to overcome the economic, social and health barriers holding them back. This work spanned from her time serving on the board of Kaleidoscope, an after school music and arts program, to her role leading an award winning grant funded effort to create a community education resource called “The Barren River Area Renters’ Handbook”. She used a service learning model with faculty and students from numerous WKU departments to form community partnerships with housing nonprofits and directly impacted elementary school students. Together they created this resource to educate our community on how to find an affordable, safe and habitable home. This handbook is still used today in local nonprofits throughout the Barren River Area and has been translated into several languages.
She is passionate about her work because housing instability and food insecurity are a part of her own story.
Ms. Beasley-Brown is a 2004 graduate of Western Kentucky University and holds numerous continuing education certificates in the FRYSC field including Trauma Informed Care, Strengthening Families and Youth Thrive Framework, Adolescent Neurological Development, and Tiers of Support for Social and Emotional Learning.
Ms. Beasley-Brown is married to Jason Brown, Executive Minister at Broadway United Methodist Church, and is the proud mom of two kids; Stockton a 6th grader at BGJHS and Evangeline a 4th grader at McNeill Elementary. In her spare time, Dana loves to cheer on our Purples and the Hilltoppers.
Mr. Lightning states, “I believe Ms. Beasley-Brown’s experience, genuine passion to assist others, as well as her knowledge of community resources, will allow her to be a great asset to our students and staff.”
