St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 9 | 16 SEPTEMBER 2021
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations.
Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
From the Principal
Dear St Columba’s school community,
It is very hard to believe that it is nearly the end of Week 9! Term 3 is always a busy term and this year has been no exception.
Last Friday, was our Field Events for the Athletics Carnival for students in Year 3 to 6. The weather was perfect, and the students thoroughly enjoyed the events on offer. Every student competed to their best, with some showing outstanding athletic abilities and skills. A big thank you to Mr Leigh Chatt for organising the event and to our wonderful volunteers for giving up their time to assist on the day. I am very much looking forward to the Athletics Carnival tomorrow!
Last Saturday, a very dedicated group of Year 5 students competed in the State Championships for the Tournament of Minds. As a school, we are very proud of their efforts and achievements in this event and after watching their presentation, I was amazed at what they have achieved in their first year. Thank you and well done to Mrs Kate Wilkes and Mr Jermaine Beins for providing this opportunity for our students.
This week I have had the pleasure of working with all the students to begin the process of writing a Student Code of Conduct. Workshops were held with each year group and have been designed to involve all students in the development of their Code of Conduct. By facilitating these workshops, I wanted to enhance the student’s engagement in learning and their sense of pride in St Columba’s. The workshops allowed students to develop a sense of belonging, enhancing the feeling that they have been listened to and most importantly heard …. Student voice is the key to creating a Student Code of Conduct. Throughout the week I have been amazed by the level of maturity and respect each year group has shown throughout this process. The conversations and discussions that were had really made me feel very proud of our students. From here, the Year 6 class will collate all the information and formally write the Student Code of Conduct. I’m really excited about presenting the final product to our school community.
On Wednesday, selected students from Year 4 to 6 took part in the Regional Spelling Bee and two Year 5 students competing in the City of South Perth Speak with Confidence competition. Well done to all of the students that took part in these events, with particular acknowledgement going to Saheli for winning the Year 6 section of the Regional Spelling Bee. Congratulations to you all and thank you to Mrs Alison Brine and Mrs Lisa Burnett for accompanying our students to these events.
Tonight, is our Open Night and Art Exhibition. All of the classrooms are beautifully presented, filled with fantastic examples of the wonderful learning that is taking place. This year our Art Exhibition was judged by Sr Maree Riddler and Geoff Baker (MLA for South Perth) with Mrs Melissa Govorko, yet again, doing a magnificent job! Thank you to all our brilliant staff for making this evening so special for our families.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
God Bless
Rebecca Clarke
