⭐ Principal's Message ⭐
Welcome Back Lamar Families!
We are so excited to be starting the 2nd semester of our school year and hope everyone had a fabulous holiday!
As a 2022-23 TN Reward School in Growth, we know that teachers, students , and families are collectively making strides to meet the needs of our students in the post pandemic era. We will continue to focus on setting individual goals with all students, providing engaging grade level lessons, and having high expectations. Below are some academic updates as well as other information:
Academic Updates- In January, students will take their Mid Year AIMSWeb assessment and receive semester 1 reports cards on Friday, January 6. Please discuss your child's semester 1 progress with them and sign and return these report cards (use Parent Portal button below to access 24/7). We will have a Mid Year Academic Honors Assembly on Friday, January 13 to recognize students who made exceptional academic gains.
Family Involvement- Look for more information soon about a February Math and Science Night and an Arts Night in March. Thanks to all who participated, planned, and came out to our December Round the World Holiday Concert! It was a huge success!
Emergency Alerts- With a possibility for continued inclement weather, please use the button below to sign up for WCDE Text Alerts. Also, did you know that the county has alerts for emergency situations? This was used over the holiday break to communicate about the water issues. Use this link to sign up for civic alerts from Washington County:

If you have any questions or if I can be of assistance, please call the school at 423-753-1130 or email me at merrimanm@wcde.org.
Respectfully,
Mark Merriman, Principal

Tennessee Benefit Kitchen
Contact: Vanessa.Waters@tn.gov
Every year, 103 million Americans leave $80 billion in public benefits unclaimed. United Way of Tennessee would like to share an amazing resource to ensure that struggling families in our state are aware of the benefits they qualify for and know how to apply for them.
Tennessee Benefit Kitchen is a free service that all Tennesseeans can use. Simply text the word “Benefits” to 211-211, and you will receive a screener that takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Then, you will immediately receive notice of tax credits and public benefits for which you are eligible, along with the links to apply for each. The tax credits and benefits covered in the screener currently include:
- Food Stamps (SNAP)
- Cash Assistance (TANF)
- Women Infants and Children (WIC)
- Head Start
- School Meals
- Child Care Assistance
- TennCare (Medicaid, for adults and children)
- ACA (Affordable Care Act for adults and children)
- CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program)

🏀 Lamar Booster Club 🏀
Do you have a child involved with athletics or extracurricular activities at Lamar? If so, we would love for you to join our Booster Club! This has been a successful club for Lamar in the past and we are working to grow the club in order to help our school programs. As a part of the Booster Club you would be volunteering your time to help our school. We are also looking for board positions to be filled. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jessica Dunn at 423-483-6022.
