I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! It is hard to believe that we are half way through the 2019-20 School Year. We are incredibly proud of all of the accomplishments that our students have achieved. All of us are excited to make sure that we have an outstanding second semester!

Math-A-Thon 2020: The Magic Of Math Is Taken Place Now:
Our students are excited about our kickoff of the new Magic Math-A-Thon that started on January 10th. The Wiggin Street School Math-A-Thon will merge academics and fundraising. First, students will ask for sponsors to pledge donations. Next, they will complete a series of math questions that will earn them points toward prizes. After that, students will collect the pledge money from their sponsors. Finally, they will return all of their donations to school, and prizes will be awarded. Grade Cards:
All students received grade cards today for your viewing. Be sure to sign the envelope and return the envelope only on Tuesday.
Reminder-In Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior-No School on Monday-1/20/2020:
In celebration of Dr. King Junior's life there will be no school on Monday.
Martin Luther King Jr. Week:
During the Week of Martin Luther King we have a variety of activities taking place to honor Dr. King and his positive influence on our country. In addition to being off school for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 20th, our students will have a variety of activities taking place that week to honor Dr. King and his positive influence on our country. Wiggin Street School will be involved in a variety of instructional activities, including but not limited to: A birthday party for Martin Luther King, Jr., service projects, classroom readings, research, poetry, and conducting a classroom play.

WS Girls On the Run Club Is Back!
Who is Eligible? Any girl in grades 3-5
When does take place? From March 2nd to May 11th (Every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5pm)

Global Day of Play-2/5/20:
On February 5th, classes may choose to participate in Global School Play Day 2020 (GSPD.) GSPD has been promoted by Psychology Today and is being celebrated at schools around the world. You can learn more about the benefits of unstructured play by visiting the official GSPD website: www.globalschoolplayday.com. I am inviting all of our students to bring in things to play with on this very special day. Here are some examples of things your child may bring in (be sure your child’s name is clearly marked on all items):
Legos, blocks, cardboard boxes, etc.
Dress-Up
Puppets
Stuffed Animals
Board Games
Puzzles
Sports equipment
Sheets and other fort building materials
Craft materials

Over the last few months both students and teachers have been developing our new monthly Champion Hour afternoons. The foundation of "Champion Hour" is based on the Genius Hour concept but tailored to the needs of our students. On January 29, 2020 at 1:30pm we will begin our monthly two hour "Champion Hour" Sessions for all students. Teachers also have the freedom to use other classtime to continue these learning opportunities.
