Tisch's Tidbits
Welcome to 2018!
I hope you all had a wonderful break. Mine was certainly eventful. After traveling for the first few days after the holidays with the family, Brycen broke his arm sledding. After a night in the ER, we came back home and were pretty much home bound as we learned new ways of doing typical tasks. Here's my PSA: Please remind your kiddos to be careful and aware of their surroundings when sledding. Be sure to look up the hill. I do not want any of your families to experience an injury. Then, my mom, who has been battling cancer since October had another round of chemo. Wow, does she amaze me. This was followed by my one month old nephew being admitted with RSV. So, while we spent quite a bit of time in hospitals, it has made me appreciate our medical staff and advancements in medicine. If you are in this field, know that you are appreciated by the Tisch family! We are all hopeful that even with a rough start to 2018, it is unicorns and rainbows the rest of the year. :) Here we are at school and officially half way through the school year. The second semester is always full of activities leading up to middle school, guest presenters, the school play, and Famous Hoosiers. I am looking forward to all of the wonderful events the are up and coming for these amazing children!
Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful class gift! I will enjoy shopping at White House Black Market while sipping on a Starbucks coffee because of your generosity. The candle smells amazing! Thank you, also, for all of the individual gifts I received. I'm sorry I was not here that Friday, but Brookie was home sick. She was bummed to miss her party as well. I'm so blessed by all of you!
NWEA
We are completing our midyear NWEA testing this week in the mornings. It is a celebration of showing what we have learned thus far! We will take the final assessment in April.
Report Cards
I am in the midst of finalizing report cards for the first half of the year. I'm so proud of this class and off their successes thus far! Please remember that a P on a report card means your child is still working on that skill. It could also mean that we are still working on the skill moving into the next quarter and I don't have enough data to show mastery yet. The goal is to earn mastery by the end of the year. In addition, you child may have earned a + in the first quarter and now may have a P. This probably means we have upped the difficulty level with the skill as the year has gone on. For example, in the first quarter area may be 8 ft. x 3 ft. Now, it may be a figure your child has to break into several smaller quadrilaterals and then add the various areas together to get a total area. If there is a major concern, I'll be sure to reach out to you.
Recess
As a reminder, if the windchill is between 10-20 degrees, it varies if we go outside for recess. If there is snow on the ground, our school policy is that snow pants and snow boots are required. Your child is more than welcome to put these items in a bag and leave them in their locker if it makes your life easier. I don't know about you, but I was frantically trying to find everyone's stuff yesterday morning, bags that were large enough to fit all of the items and then sticking on labels with everyone's names! It totally snuck up on me.
Absence
I will be here tomorrow morning, but will be gone in the afternoon as Brycen has a doctor appointment. I'm hoping everything is healing the way it should be!
