A Fond Farewell
In the Fall of '22, I met with Superintendent Snell and shared with him my intent to retire from my career in education following my eligibility in 2023. Over the last 25 years, I have been blessed to serve students across several school districts in Texas as a teacher, Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal, and Principal. I have spent the last 8 years in LHISD, first as the Principal at Liberty Hill Elementary and then opened RSES as your Principal in 2017. Being a part of Panther Nation has truly been an honor, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to serve the wonderful Liberty Hill community.
While I will be retiring from my career in education, my intent was ultimately to begin a new career path. I have the bittersweet news that this change will be happening sooner than expected. I have accepted a position with a business in Leander that begins on May 1st. That means my last day on campus will be this Friday, April 28th. I will continue to be available on consult as needed to administration. Additionally, the district has already secured an Interim Principal who will be on campus to support students, staff, and families as the school year comes to an end.
I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of your children's lives over the last years. I will never forget how much you all matter and are loved.
Respectfully,
Melanie Bowman

April Character Value
Humility is our character value for April. This is described as putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve. In our discussions, we will talk about what that looks like, and we'll share examples. We will also talk about what it means to be humble. As always, I thank you for supporting what we do in class.
Safety Update - Officer Schlather
Hello again!
This one is for the parents of the Green Walkers. You’ve probably seen them disperse out the north playground gate and form into random clusters, gravitating toward the crosswalks at vastly differing velocities. This method of release causes several issues we can easily resolve.
I’ve worked with the best and brightest – our teachers and staff working that crosswalk – to come up with an efficient solution to minimize the number of times we must shut down the roadway and get our students off campus as quickly and safely as possible.
Starting Monday (April 24th ), the students will stay in a line and walk along the sidewalk toward Bonnet Blvd. Parents waiting by their cars will be able to get their children as they walk by. Parents walking with children can become a part of the line as their children approach them. When we arrive at the crosswalk, we will wait until the students have all grouped up. At that point the crossing guards will stop traffic so everyone can cross at one time.
This method is consistent with the way all the other crosswalks are operating. It would be a great help if parents can meet their children along the sidewalk at Bonnet Blvd. Please be patient and do not coax or pull your children out of line as they exit the gate. If you’re walking with your child, please wait for the crossing guards to stop traffic before you cross the street.
I really appreciate your support while we try to smooth out the release process for our Green Walkers. I know we can do it. We just have to believe.

Summer School Opportunities 5th, 8th and EOC (high school)
Hello LHISD Families,
Spring has just begun and we are already planning for Summer School. Students in 5th grade/ 8th grade/ EOC tested subjects may be invited to attend summer school based on multiple data points we have collected throughout the school year. The data used to determine summer school invitations includes classroom performance, results on district assessments, and teacher feedback regarding the benefit your student may receive from targeted, small group support.
Due to the redesign of the STAAR tests this year, final performance level results will be delayed until later in the summer. Based on academic performance, your child may be invited to attend summer school. Invitations will go out late April/early May. However, your student may be exempted from summer school participation based on the early raw scores that will be released to districts at the end of May.
Summer School will be held June 5 - June 22 from 8:00-11:00 am, Monday - Thursday. Elementary Summer School will be held at Burden Elementary and Secondary Summer School will be held at Liberty Hill High School.
Please take note of the summer school dates, and if your student qualifies, invitations will be sent in late April/May.
