What you really need to know
If you haven't already signed up for a Fall Parent-Teacher conference, please do so! There are a few slots open on October 26 and several on December 8. I look forward to talking with you!
Thanks to Naomi's mom and brother for being our first Mystery Readers! They read the story Harold and the Purple Crayon, a crowd pleaser for sure, which is incidentally available on your October book order!
October book orders were sent home in your child's yellow folder this week. If interested, please place orders online by Friday, October 14. Go to https://clubs.scholastic.com. You will need our class code HVXFH, to create an account for your first order.
Thanks to Korrine's Mom Liz for donating a boatload of pumpkins to all of the kindergarten kids!!
On The Horizon. November is also a free-for-all.

What we've been up to.
- We are learning to read and write color words. We learned to read a color poem and each stored our own version in our poetry binder. We also know how to open and close those pesky binder rings. Life skills 101.
- We have been learning about places animals live by observing our animal visitors in their habitats and gathering facts from nonfiction books. We also learned how to tell the difference between fiction and nonfiction books.
- We have been taking surveys to help us collect important data and make decisions. We voted on fish names and settled on Terry and Eyeball. We also surveyed the group and tallied responses to find out how many of us like to eat fish (when we aren't keeping them as pets). Ask your child what we found out.
- We are working our way through the lower case alphabet and have entered into some deep conversation about vowels.
- We worked on our September calendars and learned why every month does NOT begin in the first box or end in the last box.
- We read lots of great books including The Deep Blue Sea, A Fish Out of Water, The Grouchy Ladybug and Not Norman!
- We worked on drawing pictures of our homes in the computer lab using KidPix.
