SSYRA Battle of the Books

Our two awesome teams participated in the Battle of the Books at the end of last month. Both teams worked hard by practicing two or three times a week before the battle. The teams did not win the trophy this year, but their experience will help guide them to success in the future. If you see one of the team members tell them congratulations on being an elite reader. After all, SSYRA readers are leaders!

The Flash Collection

We have a great new collection of books in loving memory of one of our Valley Ridge students. These books were purchased by members of our Valley Ridge family to support all the children who love to read. The selection of books is posted in the picture below. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this memorable collection.

Literacy Week

There were many great activities during literacy week. One of our favorite events was Buddy Reading in the media center. Other classes did Buddy Reading in their classrooms. The Kindergartners had an adorable character parade and many students wore their camouflage to hunt down good books. Thanks to everyone who celebrated Literacy Week us!

Birthday Book Club

The Valley Ridge Academy Media Center’s Birthday Book Club is a wonderful way to commemorate your child’s birthday. Your participation not only enriches the library collection but allows you and your child to be personally involved in its growth. To take part in the Birthday Book Club donate one new undamaged hardcover book (not a board book). This book should be a book that your child enjoys and one that we don’t have in the media center already. You can choose a new book at the book store or a new book from the Book Fair. A quick check of our library catalog (Destiny) will tell you if we already have the book. If you would prefer, you may make a monetary donation of $15 and your child can choose from recently acquired books that are waiting to be put on the shelves.

The following is included with your enrollment;

- A special book plate placed inside the front cover of the donated book with your child’s name and birthday.

- A photo will be taken of your child with the book he/she chooses and will be displayed in the media center and online in the Valley Ridge Reader. This photo will be sent home with your child at the end of the year to keep and enjoy.

- Your child will be the first to read and/or check-out the book that he/she
