Notre Dame Catholic Primary School
Foundations for Life Long Learning - 22 November 2018
PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
We celebrate the end of the Church’s Liturgical Year with the Feast of Christ the King this weekend. As we move into the Season of Advent let us be fully aware of the sacrifice that Jesus has made for us and the absolute importance of His presence in our lives, not just 2000 years ago, but every day.
Lord Jesus Christ,
You are a King who cares deeply for his people.
May we search out those in need,
so that Love and Justice will reign
as the Kingdom of God
is brought forth within us.
We ask our prayer in your name
and in the power of the Holy Spirit
Amen.
JUNIOR SWIM CARNIVAL
With mid-twenties forecast, hopefully, the weather will be close to perfect for the PP – Year Three Carnival at Belmont Oasis tomorrow morning. Whist it is predicted that there will be some cloud cover it is important that parents apply sunscreen prior to the children coming to school. We will have sunscreen available for top ups during the carnival. I hope everyone has a great time participating in the wide range of events that Mr Webb has planned.
LEADERSHIP SPEECHES
I’m very much looking forward to the Year Five children’s Leadership speeches after recess on Monday. Whilst only 8 of the many children who will be presenting their speeches will be elected/selected as Student Leaders, I commend all for their desire to take on this important role and for the time and effort that they have put into preparing their speech. I wish them all the best with their presentation.
TRANSITION SESSION – 4 YEAR OLD KINDY TO YEAR SIX
The children will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher/s on Friday of next week during our transition session from 11.05am (immediately after recess) through until 12.05pm.
Class placements for 2019 will be available online (link on the school website) from 4.00pm next Wednesday, 28 November. For privacy purposes an SMS will be sent to all families early next week with the Password needed to access the class lists.
SCHOOL CHOIR
Congratulations to Mr Loiacono and the members of our school choir who entertained a group of parishioners from the church this morning. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the performance but Mrs Stapleton has reported to me that they sang beautifully. Fr Quynh was so impressed that he has plans to book the choir for other events next year. He will need to check with their booking agent to see whether they are available!
Next Thursday morning the choir will entertain residents at a local facility for the aged and in the afternoon, they will perform for the patients at The Little Sisters of the Poor facility in Glendalough. Between the performances they will visit an adventure park in Mt Hawthorn and enjoy a pizza lunch to thank them for all of their efforts throughout the year.
AGMs
A reminder that the Annual General Meetings for both the School Board and the P&F will be held next Tuesday evening commencing at 6.00pm. Should you wish to nominate to serve on either of these parent groups please submit your nomination to the school office by tomorrow, 23 November.

- The Student's name
- The Student's class

CHRISTMAS VIGIL MASS - Monday 24 December 2018 @6.00pm @ Notre Dame Church
Fr Quynh has asked the school to place an advance notice for the Christmas Vigil Mass at Notre Dame Church. He is inviting students to do the Readings and Prayer of the Faithful. The children attending the Family Mass will process with him at the beginning of the Mass. The children are most welcome to be dressed in the real theme of Christmas – Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds, sheep and wise men (kings).
If you are attending the Christmas Vigil Mass and your child would like to participate in the readings etc. please notify Daniela Boyle or Joanita Stapleton from the Notre Dame Liturgy Committee.
4YR OLD KINDY CLASS NEWS
This has been another busy and exciting term in Kindy.
In Literacy we have been learning about the ocean and the story of the Rainbow Fish which reminds us about friendship and sharing.
In Religious Education we read a story about Jesus calming the storm and listened to a Godly Play, Jesus’ Baptism. The Kindergarten students will also be looking forward to their end of year excursion to Cicerello’s.
On Friday 9 November 2018, the Kindergarten children had an incursion from South East Regional Centre and were introduced to interesting facts about turtles.
We learnt about the long neck turtles and felt a turtle shell as well as looking at turtle egg shells.
Later in the Term, the Kindergarten students will be learning about and taking part in Advent and Christmas activities and a visit from our Notre Dame Parish Priest, Father Michael Quynh Do.
In Maths this term we have been looking at measurement and completing activities such as comparing the length of objects using different materials, measuring ourselves and measuring the capacity of objects in the water trolley. We are revising our counting by practising writing and saying numbers aloud to twenty and beyond. We have integrated the sea theme into our maths program such as measuring sea creatures, cooking jelly etc.

LIBRARY NEWS
Have you lost your library bag?
We have a lost library bag (it has no name on it!) that has been handed into the library – if you are missing a bag please come and see the library.
Library closed @ lunchtimes
We have been very busy in the library with Year 5 and 6 having talks and leadership days, therefore, the library has been closed at lunchtimes on these particular days. Unfortunately, the library will be closed at lunchtime for the remainder of the term due to the library doing some end of year housekeeping.
If you have any overdue books to return to the library, please feel free to drop in before or after school.
Many thanks,
Mrs Sarmardin
Library Technician
CHOIR NEWS
Well done to the choir children who sang so beautifully for the senior citizens of Notre Dame Parish. The parishioners were certainly treated to strong, enthusiastic singing. We were pleased to share some Christmas cheer with them this morning. I haven’t heard The Twelve Days of Christmas sung so joyfully as I did this morning. Thank you to all the staff members who assisted this morning. Thank you also to Fr Quynh and the parishioners for inviting us and for providing the children with some delectable delights after our performance this morning.
Next week the choir has a big week, as we continue our Christmas outreach program on Thursday and they will be singing for the Graduation Mass next Friday (30 November).

PARENT TV
Is the sort of teenager you end up with just luck or is it possible to grow the right type of teen? Dr Arne Rubinstein of The Rites of Passage Institute explores when the right time to start working on your teenager is (and this might surprise you!) and how to go about it.
Dr Justin Coulson discusses the different types of discipline and how these are perceived by your child.
What is a parent to do when their child comes home and says they have been bullied? The very first thing a parent needs to do is assess the situation by knowing what bullying is.
We hope you have a wonderful week!
