Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce | January 2019
Ringing in the New Year
As we begin this new year, it is easy to get caught up in resolutions for a healthier lifestyle. Here at the Chamber of Commerce, our goal is to phase out ineffective practices by implementing and focusing on relevant services to our Chamber Businesses.
This means evaluating how we've always done things, developing new opportunities, and choosing to pursue what benefits our businesses, engages our community, and ultimately helps your business thrive.
We're on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter so we encourage you to like and follow us. If you haven't already, we hope you will create social media accounts and tag us so we can further promote you. Tag us as a co-host when you create your facebook events to share with our many followers.
I join Tim Radford at WKRK for their weekly #wkrkWednesday facebook live. Sherry shares he events of our members on our weekly spot on WJRB 95.1 and WJUL 97.7, as well as a monthly spot on WCNG. We encourage you to post all of your events to our online calendar because this is what we share at each radio station. (click here to "submit new event")
We're working to revamp our online presence with a new and improved website rolling out this Spring. We will have the same domain, but we're adding a blog to present a far more user-friendly resource for our businesses, community, and tourists.
We know that our community of almost 400 businesses have a lot to share with us. Please be sure to share what you have going on at your business. Effective January 8th, my new email address for marketing and public relations is marketing@cherokeecountychamber.com so please, help me help you by keeping me in the know!
Cheers to an amazing 2019!

Goodbye and Good Luck to Megan
We want to thank Megan for all of her work to promote each business member. She has been a joy to work with and will certainly be missed. Our loss is Disney's gain and we wish her all the best as she begins her internship in the Disney College Program. Safe travels and we look forward to your visits back to Cherokee County!
Member of the Month
Barry Clayton is new to McNabb Properties in downtown Murphy, so you may know him more as a volunteer firefighter in Cherokee County. As a graduate of Hiwassee Dam High School, he and his wife, Kayla Clayton, have grown up in the Murphy area and love the people of our community.
Barry had previously worked in different manufacturing facilities, but decided to go to school and pursue a career in real estate. With his love of his family and neighbors, he wanted the opportunity to be out in Cherokee County, meeting new people and helping those in his community... READ MORE
Ambassador of the Month
Tara Laney has experience as a loan processor, loan reviewer, teller, branch manager, and now as a Commercial Loan Specialist at Nantahala Bank. Tara graduated from Hiwassee Dam High School, earned her Associates at Tri-County Community College, then commuted to earn her degree in Business Management at Western Carolina university while processing loans for Nantahala Bank.
Tara took a little over a year to work at a larger bank and gain that experience, but she quickly realized that she missed the people of Cherokee County. Nantahala Bank is a smaller community bank with impeccable customer service and a familiarity you can’t experience at a larger bank. If you ask her what drives her each day, it is the daily visits with customers and her ability to help each individual... READ MORE
