Healthcare Enrollment--September 29

Healthcare Enrollment at Hutchison through Partnership for Healthier Communities

Thursday, September 29th 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Does your child or family need healthcare? Partnership for Healthier Communities will visit Hutchison Elementary to connect parents with affordable source of healthcare services through programs like Medicaid, CHIP, and local safety net providers. There are healthcare options available for most children, including those new to the country. Please contact Maria Michlik at 703-925-8329 or Mary Specht at 703-709-3159 for an appointment.

Good health, school attendance, and academic success are closely linked. Thank you for partnering with Hutchison Elementary for a successful school year.

Attendance: When Should I Keep My Child Home?

When students miss too many days of school, they fall behind and struggle to keep up with their classmates. Whether the days missed are due to illness, truancy, or for any other reason, the end result for the student is the same — learning time is lost. Children and adolescents will get sick at times and may need to stay at home, but we want to work with you to help minimize the number of days your student misses school. Attendance Today & Achieve Tomorrow!

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Some of the ways parents can help their children create healthy routines and a habit of getting to school on time every day include:

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? View this morning checklist, available in English or Spanish.)

  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.

  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.

  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.

  • When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Visit our website for more attendance resources. Attend today, Achieve Tomorrow!
