New PreK Meal Pattern
New Pre-K Meal Pattern
Troy I.S.D. participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP), which requires the district to follow the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) federal guidelines and regulations.
In April 2016, the USDA released an updated Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) meal pattern. The new meal pattern requires schools that participate in the NSLP to use the CACFP meal pattern for students aged 5 and under that are not enrolled in kindergarten. The new meal pattern must be in place before October 1, 2017.
Two of the most noticeable differences between the CACFP meal pattern and the NSLP program are:
Students aged 5 and under that are not enrolled in kindergarten are only allowed fat-free or low-fat unflavored milk. This means that students are only allowed to have white milk.
Students aged 5 and under that are not enrolled in kindergarten must receive all 5 components on their tray. This means that students must receive a meat/meat alternate, grain, vegetable, fruit, and milk on their tray. They are not allowed to decline any of the components.

Attendance
Attendance Incentives -
Attendance is vital to student success in school. It is also a lifelong skill that students will need once out in the workforce. Please help us encourage good attendance during the school year. To promote good attendance we are providing a few incentives. This year students with 4 or less absences per semester will be invited to attend our Inflatable day. Students with 5 or less absences at the end of the school year will be invited to attend our play day at Ralph Wilson Youth Club.
Reminders about attendance laws - (all in the handbook)
Compulsory Attendance - State law requires that a student between the ages of 6 and 19 attend school. Students enrolled in prekindergarten or kindergarten are required to attend school and are subject to the compulsory attendance requirements as long as they remain enrolled.
90% Attendance Law - To receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. This equates to 17 or less absences.
Excused vs. Unexcused - When a student is absent from school, the student—upon arrival or return to school—must bring a note signed by the parent that describes the reason for the absence. Four parent notes per semester will be excused, all additional parent notes will be coded unexcused (1 parent note = 1 day). Upon returning to school, a student absent for more than 3 consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence from school.
