Creating Memories
“Children spend six hours or more a day on screens.” BBC
“Children spend only half as much time playing outdoors as their parents did.” CBC News
“Children spend less than 30 minutes playing outside a week.” Telegraph
“We spend 90% of our time indoors… and 6 % in a car.” Build Green
Camping, riding a bike, jumping rope, pogo sticks, big wheel races, fishing, mud pies, snowball fights – okay, the last one is dependent on where you grew up - I’m willing to bet one, or all, of those bring back memories of your childhood. Even without the research, we know youth are not spending nearly as much time outdoors as we did as children. I have to wonder what memories the youth of today will cherish from their childhood?
While it is a good start, being a Scout does not ensure youth will spend more time outdoors. It takes a concerted effort to put on a varied, engaging, quality outdoor program. It is up to unit leadership, both youth and adult, to offer activities that inspire your Scouts. Texas Powder Horn can give you the tools you need to create new adventures and lasting memories!
Act now before it is too late. The course begins September 6th and seats are almost full. Click on the following link for additional information and to register: http://www.texaspowderhorn.rocks
