Rachel's Challenge November 5th
Thanks to the generous support of our community sponsors, Bolivar Schools will bring Rachel's Challenge to our community on November 4-5th. Although each school in the district will have a program, the high school presentation will be Nov 5th at 10:45. A community event is to be held on Nov 5th at 7:00PM at the BHS Auditorium.
We would like to thank our many sponsors: Woods Supermarket, Kiwanis Club, Polk Co. Health Department, Citizens Memorial Hospital, First Nazarene Church of Bolivar, Sacred Heart Church and Sonic.
Rachel's Challenge includes a series of student empowering, educator motivating programs and strategies called the Awaken the Learner Five-step School Improvement Process that equips students and adults to create and sustain safe, caring and supportive learning environments essential for academic achievement. The programs are based on the writings and life of 17 year-old Rachel Scott who was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999. Rachel left a legacy of reaching out to those who were different, who were picked on by others, or who were new at her school.
Shortly before her death she wrote,
The elements of the school improvement process are designed to create a culture of kindness and compassion and to equip students and adults with resources to insure that their schools are safe, caring and supportive learning environments essential for academic achievement.

"I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go."

Veterans Day Assembly to feature Shades of Blue jazz band
Bolivar High School will host its annual Veteran's Day Assembly at 10:30AM Monday, Nov. 10th, at the BHS auditorium. Refreshments will be served to veterans from 9:45-10:15AM in the BHS commons.
Once again we are pleased to have Shades of Blue, an Air Force jazz band that is part of the Air Force Bands of Mid-America. This group has visited BHS on several previous occasions for our Veteran's Assembly, and they are an amazingly talented and entertaining group.
BHS Student Council plans the yearly event.

Digital Learning Committee
BHS has formed a committee to explore how we can increase learning and help prepare our students for college or the workplace through a 1:1 technology initiative. Currently, our teachers might have to wait as long as three weeks to get their classes access to a computer lab. So much can be done with access to the internet and the digital tools that technology provides. In a 1:1 school, each student would have a device to use for learning so that access is not an issue.
During open house, a meeting was held for parents to learn more about this planning process.
Our committee is meeting regularly and will soon develop a recommendation for the district.
Below are a few of the slides that were shared in a recent presentation at the Board of Education meeting.
