BEYOND THE SKIN
Youth exchange: Dance Movement and body expression for YOUTH
WHAT?
The participants enjoyed different approaches for body work, dance and theatre and at the end of the youth exchange created a performance together that was performed in the town of Caravaca in a public event.
WHAT FOR?
The aim of this youth exchange was:
To promote dance, body expression and choreographic theatre as a way to break social stereotypes or prejudices about refugees or migrants
Our specific objectives were:
- To create a safe space for exchange, mutual learning, and intercultural interaction among young people through artistic approaches and non formal education activities.
- To raise awareness of young people about the healthy benefits of dance, choreographic theatre and body expression.
- To develop young people's knowledge, skills and attitudes regarding the current refugees' crisis in Europe.
- To foster young people creativity and spontaneity so that they find new ways for self expression.
- To explore and learn how to create dance or choreographic theatre plays for breaking prejudices and stereotypes about migrants or refugees.

Choreographic Theatre
Choreographic Theatre was developed by Enrique Pardo - it is the label that best reflects the complexity of his work - related to, but distinct, from contemporary currents like dance theatre, physical and corporal theatre, image theatre, non-narrative theatre, performance art, etc.
Enrique's proposals offer one of today's most demanding synthesis in the inclusion not only of movement, dance, music, voice and singing, but especially of spoken TEXT - which has been excluded by too many contemporary performers whose work has become excluvely visual and musical pageants.
Choreographic Theatre brings together text, voice and physical theatre. While based on exacting group-composition disciplines, it promotes personal expressivity - especially vocal. Previous dance experience is not essential, but one must be prepared to move, make moves and be moved.
