Calling all Teachers! Mark Your Calendars! Contest Runs September 1 to November 15th
Looking for a project to add a little "Magic" to your classroom? Have your class enter Mrs. P’s 5th Annual “Be-A-Famous-Writer” Contest. Mrs P invites your class to write a story on the topic of "Magic", no less than 250 words and not to exceed 1,000 words. It may be fiction or non-fiction. Any classroom from Kindergarten through 4th grade may enter. Just one story per classroom! It can be a collaborative story, or you can have your class vote on which child's story to enter. It is the classroom entering, not an individual student. The classroom will be recognized as the winner. For example "Mrs. P's 3rd Grade Class from Dreamy Valley" Everyone is the class that wins is winning books and prizes for their school. The stories are judged by a panel of celebrity judges. Meet them below! The winning story for the 2013 contest was "My Magic App", a story submitted as a collaborative class project from Mrs. Alicea’s 3rd Grade Class from WJ Gurganus Elementary in Havelock, NC.
How to Enter and contest rules!
- Entrants must be kindergarten, first, second, third or fourth grade teachers on behalf of their classroom
- To be eligible, the school must be in the United States, an entrant (teacher) must be a legal resident of the fifty (50) United States and D.C. (excluding Puerto Rico, USVI and American Samoa). Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify ineligible entries; such entries will not be returned.
- Only one entry per classroom will be accepted; all subsequent entries will be disqualified.
- Stories can be fact or fiction and must use the theme “Magic” in the story.
- Email the story to MrsPstorytime @ gmail.com with the teacher name, grade, school name and address and a contact phone. Please state in the email that you have read the rules. If there is a twitter account for the teacher or school please include that. Please let us know if it is a collaborative class project or a story your class voted on as their favorite done by a student to enter. Remember just one entry per classroom.
- Classrooms will be notified by January 15, 2014 if they have won the contest!

Karla Duff (@teacher6th) has found her spot teaching at Oelwein Middle School in Oelwein, Iowa for the last 20 years. She has been trained to help in all Reading Emergencies 1. Open book 2. Read . She surrounds herself with a fantastic family, amazing students and exciting books.
Meet judge Melissa Peterman
She's an actress and comedienne who is best known for her role as Barbra Jean in the television comedy series Reba. Currently, she stars as Bonnie Wheeler in the ABC Family series Baby Daddy, and as host of ABC Family's Dancing Fools, ABCs Bet On Your Baby, and CMT's The Singing Bee. She's also a mom to a 8 year old, so knows how to spot a good story.
Meet judge Craig Ferguson
He's is a Scottish-born American television host, stand-up comedian, writer, actor, director, author, producer and voice artist. He is the host of Award-winning The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, that airs on CBS. In addition to hosting his own show and performing stand-up comedy, Ferguson has written two books: Between the Bridge and the River, a novel, and American on Purpose, a memoir.
