Preschool Program Launching in 2023-2024

Treynor Community School District is excited to launch our preschool program for the 2023-2024 school year. The all-day program will serve 4-year-old students and follow a calendar that closely mirrors the K-12 academic year.

We received 36 applications which were then reviewed by the preschool committee. The committee used a weighted enrollment system to rank the applications based on residency, Early Access (IEP) required, and financial need. Decision letters were mailed to families on April 1st. Currently, we have 17 students enrolled in preschool for the 23-24 school year.

After nine teacher interviews, we selected Mrs. Jennifer Young as our preschool teacher. Mrs. Young is currently a kindergarten teacher in Glenwood CSD and comes to us with over 20 years of experience working with preschool and kindergarten-aged children

Preschool programs are required to have a separate playground. We received a Transformational Grant from the Iowa West Foundation to cover 50% of the costs. The complete project has come in at just under $66,000. The playground construction is nearing completion!

Breakfast and Books Literacy Events See Huge Success

This spring, each grade at the elementary hosted a Breakfast and Books event. The events were designed to encourage literacy awareness between students and their chosen "book buddy" through grade-appropriate activities arranged by the classroom teachers. We had an amazing turnout and look forward to future literacy events!

Treynor Staff Are Raising the Red "C"

Mrs. JoEllen Travis

received the "Raising the Red C" award this spring. Mrs. Travis, a first-grade teacher, shows world-class commitment to her students and to the district as a whole.

Mrs. Katie Campbell

"Katie is always helping out teachers, whether it be making up classes missed, finding extra time to take kids as a reward for tennis shoes, or being fully involved with committees. Katie plans and runs an amazing track meet for 4-6 and field day for k-3. She has amazing school spirit, and ALWAYS a positive outlook and attitude. Katie even posts all staff and students' birthdays, making sure to send out emails to the staff on their birthdays to make them feel special. Katie is always Raising the Red C!"

"Mrs. Campbell is such an amazing PE teacher and human being! The students in the elementary are blessed to have her in our building. Mrs. Campbell works so hard to help ALL students develop the skills they are working on. She also initiates many exciting activities that the kids love - our dodgeball tournament, March Madness brackets for kids, and the track and field day are just a few. In 17 years of teaching, I have never had a specials teacher who is so willing to use her planning time to take classes for extra PE as a reward. Besides rewarding the students with extra PE, she also blesses the teachers by taking them for PE during the week of the teachers' birthday. She is just such a great role model for our students. We are SO lucky to have her here at Treynor!"

Mr. Lyle Nichols

"Mr. Nichols is always willing to help students become more successful. For example, he will stay after school to help students get caught up on any missing work/tests/projects they have. He will also help students stay organized and on top of their classes by checking in with them and making sure they've completed everything they were supposed to. Mr. Nichols also helps with leadership at the Middle School, he has given them opportunities to become great role models such as hosting a dance and exploring how they can give back to the community. He is also a great mentor for teachers who need advice on a project, class, or for professional improvement."
