ANNOUNCEMENTS

WELCOME BACK!!!! We hope you had a joyful, relaxing break! Here's to an AMAZING 2016! I know it's going to be EPIC as we continue to educate our scholars and get them ready for next year! I'd like to welcome Tania Delgado who will be joining our team as the new EL Instructional Assistant. We are very excited to have her here to help our students! Also, a big congratulations to Ms. Rosenberg who got engaged over the holiday break. What a lucky guy!

Biweekly Data Talks/Check-Ins

We are excited to reignite our biweekly data talks this semester. Please check your calendar for an invite from either Mrs. Pope of Mrs. Fennema. If you have not received one yet, you should in the next few days (and you were likely notified via email of your time). The purpose of this meeting will be to focus on the progress of your students by examining iReady data. For those of you who do not teach ELA/Math, we will be looking at other means of data to help drive your instruction. I will be doing my best to participate in as many talks as possible (some overlap so I will alternate in that case).

Structured Recess - K-2 Campus

This week we will begin the new structured recess we spoke about before break. You will be receiving another email shortly that outlines expectations and schedule.

Formal Observation Sign-Ups

It's that time again to begin preparing for Formal Observations. Below you will find the sign-up document for Formals. Please sign up no later than this Friday, January 15.

A few things have changed this year in regards to sign-ups so please keep the following in mind when choosing your time-slot.

  • Certain time-slots only apply to certain grade-levels - this is due to the split campuses and our desire to continue making sure that at least 2 admin. are present during every observation.
  • Some time-slots are longer than 45 minutes - this is so you can select the exact 45 minute block you'd like us to observe during that time period. Please make sure to include the exact 45 minute block you would like us to come.
  • Remember that your pre-conference will take place at 7:30am on the day of your observation.

We will be offering an optional PD for those who would like more clarity on the process this Friday, January 15 @ 3:30 (3-8 campus, Room 34)

Formal Observation Sign-Up Schedule

Please read the parameters carefully before entering your name in a slot. Thank you!

Rainy Day Preparedness

As you have probably heard, we are in for a very rainy winter. In an effort to be prepared for this, we are trying to equip you with some key items such as a bucket for umbrellas and floor mats. We will be alerting families to have students come prepared with umbrellas and raincoats. We are also devising a nutrition/lunch plan for those extreme days. You will receive details on this later in the week.

Trait of the Month - Citizenship

Making your community a better place by your actions and contributions

Here is a link to the google doc:

Student of the Month Submission

Word of the Week

resolution

(n) a firm decision to do or not to do something.

Instructional Focus - Behavior Expectations (2.2)

With a new year, comes new beginnings and fresh starts. It also comes with a need to reinforce routines and procedures to secure a strong second semester. Remember to go over class rules and expectations and to practice routines and procedures just as you did with your students at the beginning of the school year. For those of you first year teachers, you'd be surprised what students may forget over a 3 week period.

Supervision Reminder

We are still looking for extra help on the yard (major shout-out to those of you who have already volunteered!) A few reminders for when you're on watch:

  • Be super VISIBLE (walk around, stay standing, avoid being hidden by students coming to speak to you)
  • Be super VIGILANT (really look around, walk over to groups of students that are huddled in the far corners of the yard, walk past the bathrooms several times, and please no cell phone use during supervision).

Supervision Schedule 3 - 8

1/11 - School Resumes

1/12 - Semester 1 Rewards

1/18 - MLK - No School

1/20 - PIM

1/21 - SSC #6 Meeting

1/28 - Vista Open House

1/29 - SOM/Fun Friday

2/22 - Benchmark 3 Testing Window Opens
