Responsive Classrooms - Display Photos of Students at Work
"Another way to build positive classroom tone is by helping students see themselves as capable learners. Throughout the day, snap photos of students engaged in their work, perhaps as they're making a map of their city or town as part of their first social studies unit, or using dice or dominoes to create math problems. Then post these around the room.
Make sure all students are represented in photos and other displays. Students' visions of themselves as workers - as mathematicians, readers, writers, and so on - will be strengthened when they see themselves actually doing the important work." pg. 173, The First Six Weeks of School

Global Goals
Why are children and young people important to the Goals?
There are 1.8 billion people aged 10 – 24 in the world, the largest youth population in history. Young people can be powerful in holding their governments accountable to their Global Goals promise by speaking publicly in their support for the Goals now, buying from businesses that are working to support the Goals (and challenging those that are not) and through their voting power in the near future. Young people can also use their education to take specific action in support of the Goals. They can invent, they can innovate and they can campaign for causes or to solve problems that they care about. View our film here.Virginia Beach Reading Council (VBRC)

Open Enrollment
Consolidated Benefits Office is having an “Early Bird Incentive” to reward anyone who elects or declines their benefits by Oct. 15. Employees who complete their Open Enrollment will receive two Regal Cinema movie tickets and a chance to be entered into a drawing where five winners will receive either a $100 Top Golf gift card; 1,000 BEWell points; an Echo Dot; or an Echo Show.
All employees will receive the Open Enrollment guide mailed to their home address by the end of September, which will include all benefit plan premiums, plan design changes, and assistance opportunities for those who do not have computer access or would like help enrolling. The Open Enrollment guide will provide an overview of benefit plans offered. Employees can access detailed plan information and all plan documents on the Consolidated Benefits Office intranet site.
To help achieve 100 percent enrollment, the Consolidated Benefits Office will be sending a list of all employees who have not yet completed their enrollment to all principals and department heads the week of Oct. 16. We will not continue to send updated lists throughout the Open Enrollment period as we did last year. We appreciate your time and support to ensure all employees elect or decline their benefits for 2018, as current benefit plan elections will not roll over. Please assist us by making sure that your employees do not miss the deadline.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Linda Matkins in the Consolidated Benefits Office (263-6917). Thank you.
