Assistant Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hills Families,
At Oak Hills, we believe establishing strong, positive relationships with students is the best way to promote academic success. When students feel safe and cared for at school, they will be motivated to try their best because they know all the adults in the building believe in them and are invested in their educational outcomes. Further, part of becoming Culture of Care school means we seek to understand the cultural lens of each of our students to the best of our ability. Doing this will help us to strengthen those relationships.
With this goal in mind, our staff had the opportunity to hear from members of our Oak Hills community to find out how it was when they went to school in their countries. We know we live in a global society and our students are global citizens. That is why we invited families to share their experiences with us. Seeing our school through their eyes was so valuable. We got a glimpse of how our school compares to what they knew as children. We now feel better informed to relate to our students even more. And we will find even more ways to bring the experiences of all of our families into our teaching.
Thank you to the following parents who so generously shared their time and stories with us: Sang Yong Yoon, Linlin Liang, Monica Chen, Amika Takeoka, Suha Barakat and Karen Portillo. We learned so much from you!
If you'd like to join us in establishing strong community relationships, please consider joining our Global Citizenship Committee. The next meeting is on November 15th at 8am. One of the aims of this committee is to build relationships among the members of our community as we strive to teach our children about global citizenship.
Warmly,
Jennifer
Thank You for the Jog-A-Thon!
We had so much fun celebrating the success of our Jog-A-Thon with our students. Ms. Baumgardner and I were out of breath, but it was worth it! What a wonderful event! We couldn't be more appreciative of the hard work that went into the planning of the Jog-A-Thon. The generosity of this community is astounding. I am pleased to announce that we exceeded our fundraising goal of $35,000. We were actually able to raise
$40, 934!!
Thank you to Cindy Pelto and Kim Douglas for their leadership in this endeavor. Thank you to all of the volunteers and parents who came to help and cheer us on. WE WANT YOU!
Parents are a great asset to our school. Please help us show off the rich culture of our school community! We invite you to share a special talent with our students in a 10-15 minute showcase on Wednesday, November 29th. Do you play an instrument? Can you present a cultural dance? Do you do something dynamic for a career? Or do you have a different idea? Please share it!! You would be presenting to each grade level between 8am and 1pm. We value you as role models, and know the students would love to learn from you. All presenters will need to complete an application and background check.
