PARK PENCIL POINT NEWSLETTER
January 18, 2024
The mission of the Chardon Local Schools is we commit to high achievement for all students.
Parents, a friendly reminder of the utmost importance to have your designated PINK PICKUP PASSES displayed when picking up your child from school. These passes ensure a secure and efficient dismissal process, guaranteeing your child's safety. Please make it a habit to bring your passes with you every day to facilitate a smooth and organized pickup routine. If you are unable to locate your pass, please call or stop into the office and we will provide you with a replacement. Thank you in advance for your continued cooperation in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students and staff.
REMINDER TO DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!
Park students go outside unless it is below 15 degrees, so they must be prepared each day. That means the following items should come to school daily: COAT, BOOTS, SNOW PANTS, HAT, GLOVES, SCARF, etc. The best way to send these items to school is in a reusable grocery bag. Marc's sells big ones that hold everything nicely and seem to last the season. PLEASE MARK EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME!!!
A few other things to mention:
We do not wear boots in the classroom, so be sure your child has indoor shoes to wear.
Students without the appropriate snow clothes will not be allowed to play in areas with snow, and will have to remain on the blacktop at recess.
Extra socks come in handy, so feel free to keep an extra pair in the snow gear bag.
Students must be able to dress themselves, which includes zipping coats and putting on gloves.
Hello Hilltopper Families!
As the winter chill graces us with its presence, I am excited to share some warmth and cheer with you this week. Our students have been working diligently to achieve the goals they set for themselves since winter break. It’s so exciting for me to visit classrooms and observe students and see the growth they have made. They are so proud of themselves and I AM SO PROUD OF THEM! First graders are writing paragraphs! Second graders are researching French speaking countries and reporting their findings. Third graders are calculating elapsed time and learning just how much time they actually spend at soccer practice or playing video games. LOL
Tomorrow, our students will attend a special PBIS assembly with Basketball Jones. They have definitely earned it! This highly engaging and motivating assembly is one of my favorites and I am so excited for our students to have this opportunity. Be sure to ask them all about it!
Here's to the rest of January being filled with endless learning possibilities and continued growth! Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee
PARENTS OF GRADE 2 STUDENTS:
Your child will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) during the window of February 5-9, 2024. This is an Ohio-required whole-grade test that screens all students for potential gifted identification in Superior Cognitive Ability and Creative Thinking Ability, and it also provides information about students' strengths. Following the screening, individual student results will be sent home with your child. Please contact your child’s school for exact testing dates and times. If you have questions or concerns about this assessment please contact megan.kinney@chardonschools.org.

In our third-grade classrooms, commitment is evident as students diligently complete their morning bell work and actively apply math concepts. This commitment of both teachers and students to starting the day with focused and purposeful tasks sets a positive tone for their entire learning experience. This daily commitment not only enhances students’ mathematical skills but also promotes a sense of responsibility and achievement, contributing to a positive and dynamic learning environment in our third-grade classrooms.
