BISD Board Goal 1: Provide BISD with the tools and training to support academic achievement by providing quality learning opportunities for every student every day.
The 2nd grade students in Mrs. Thomas's class practiced their math facts with Math Fish Jeopardy.
The kindergarten students wore caps on "C" day.
The kindergarten students in Mrs. Stone's class enjoyed playing in the "snow". This is snow they made in class. They are hoping to see the real thing sometime soon.
The kindergarten students created snowmen as part of the January Family Project. The snowmen are all unique just like these precious children.
The kindergarten students in Mrs. McKelva's class learned about subtraction with fruit loops.
These kindergarten students have been learning about Arctic animals over the last couple of weeks. In class they felt the difference between a protective layer of blubber and their bare hands in 32 degree water. They all agreed that penguins, seals, walrus, and polar bears need that blubber to swim in frigid waters!
The 2nd grade students in Mrs. Vega's class learned about groundhogs and how to draw a groundhog. They discussed Groundhog Day and made their own predictions.
The 2nd grade students in Mrs. Hilliard's class, cut out 2 dimensional shapes and cut, tore, and hold punched them to make a new picture just like in the book, "The Perfect Square". These students are so creative!
Geoboard, magnet clips, and more shape exploration fun in 2nd grade.
On the 100th day of school, our students participated in many activities. We had children dress up to look how they think they will look when they are 100 years old. Students played with the App that takes their picture and ages them 100 years. Some strung 100 fruit loops on a piece of yearn. Students estimated and then determined how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. Students found 100 words in their classroom and some did a home to school 100 day project.
Our 2nd grade students have been learning about Geometry. The students in Mrs. VanHuss's classroom created 3 dimensional figures.
The 2nd grade students in Mrs. Purser's class learned about the phases of the moon with Oreo's.
Mrs. Gomez's 3rd graders have been learning about fractions on a number line.
Fun Food Fridays, the students in Mrs. Stark's class have been very busy. They made snowmen with bananas and sugar donuts; penguins and snow with baking soda and white hair conditioner. The students also made snowflakes
BISD Board Goal 2: Create and promote a positive working environment of mutual respect, cooperation, and open communication between faculty, staff, Board and community.
The names of the Finley-Oates staff members that had perfect attendance during the first semester were put in a drawing. Tara Stark's name was drawn and she had the opportunity to "Jump for Abe". We taped $5 bills to the floor. She was able to receive all of the money she could jump over.
Tristan Archambault, Cj Manis, Devin Burchfiled, Presley Williams and Andrew Bush received a Positive Office Referrals. Keep up the good work!
Positive Office Referrals!
The kindergarten students in Mrs. Parsons's class learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. and how he changed the world. They made hearts and posted them around campus to spread some love and make our school a little brighter.
The 3rd grade teachers held a baby shower to welcome Lupe Gomez's baby.
BISD Goal 4: BISD will be excellent stewards of taxpayer funds in a transparent environment.
Give Jessica Hilliard a high five! She recently earned funding at DonorsChoose.org for a classroom project called "Spring into Learning". With this project she is able to provide her students with positive learning experiences. Her class will receive Ready to Use Nectar, Humming Bird Feeder, Bird Feeding Station, Insect Nets, Critter Cage, Magnifying Glasses, and an Ant Farm Kit. Mrs. Hilliard also earned funding through DonorsChoose.org for her classroom project, "Let's Beat the System". She will receive a classroom set of Magnetic Marbles, Magnetic Wands, PoweClix Frames, a Marble Run Track and some puzzles.
Robyn Hartsell, a Region 10 consultant, has been on the Finley-Oates Campus once a month. She observes and offers feedback to our staff as well as models effective teaching practices.
