PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Bumpus Family,
Tomorrow's the day! Our first day of the 2020-2021 school term! It's taken a long time to get here but we are very ready! Please visit the school's website for even more information!
When you arrive
This Thursday and Friday, students should report to their team area when they arrive. There will be adults EVERYWHERE to support your child if they just know what team they are on. That information can be found on their schedule with their HR teacher. If they don't know their team, we will look it up. An updated copy of their schedule will be provided in their homeroom. Beginning Monday, August 24th and moving forward, students will report to their 1st period class.
Locker help
I know you think they'll have difficulty with their lockers. Many of you practiced while here last week. You may also want to review this video in preparation for locker opening. Adults will be available to assist. Lockers will be visited approximately three times each day - upon arrival on the hall, during lunch and at the end of the day.
Arrival time
Our first class begins at 8:15. Carpool students cannot exit their car prior to 7:30 am. Carpool traffic goes all the way over the top of Flemming Pkwy. to enter Bumpus at the second drive. Students should exit all along the covered sidewalk on the carpool side. Once we establish our routine, carpool closes at 8:13 so students have enough time to get to their 1st period classroom seat by 8:15. Parents should check students in in the main office after carpool ends.
Afterschool
School ends at 3:15. It will take us up to two weeks to establish our afternoon carpool patterns and times. Please be patient, exhale and relax a bit....we're all a little rusty...it's been FIVE months!!! Show grace.
Face-to-face on Thursday
Students with last name A-L should report to school on Thursday for face-to-face instruction. Students with last name M-Z should log into Google Classroom on Thursday to begin their first day of school remotely. On Google Classroom, they will find lessons and instructions from their face-to-face teachers. All activities and assignments should be completed on Thursday in preparation for their face-to-face time on Friday.
Virtual students
By now, all of our virtual students have been contacted by their team of teachers. You will start school virtually on Thursday just as our face-to-face students will.
Support for parents
The Bumpus Remote Learning Almanac was created with our parents and guardians in mind. The Almanac's purpose is to provide all with one site to access any information needed about a Bumpus Middle School class. The Almanac is located on the Bumpus Middle School website.
Lunch time
Students will be allowed to eat in the cafeteria until we reach a socially distanced capacity of 72 or in their hall's classroom. Microwaves will not be available for student use. Water bottles can be refilled at our filtered water stations. Although the water fountains are not in service, students have access to water in the cafeteria all day.
Bus Routes
Bus Route Information can be found on the Hoover City Schools website. Once on the website, www.hoovercityschools.net, go to Departments - Transportation - Edulog Web Query Page - enter your address and grade level - click Go. Just like carpool, it will take a while to establish bus route patterns and times. Be sure to arrive at your stop 15-20 minutes before the scheduled stop until the routes are finalized. The number for the Transportation Department is 205-439-1120.
Carpool information
All buses will depart before carpool begins. Please do not block a bus or run through a bus stop sign. To ensure the arrival of our buses is not impeded, all check-outs must be completed by 3:00 pm daily. Virtual school athletes have been instructed by their coaches on where to be dropped off each afternoon. Detailed instructions Carpool map
Bumpus has a well run afternoon carpool procedure. It will take some time for everyone to get comfortable with the procedures. Please do not schedule any appointments before 4:00 until our procedures are more established. You may not pick your child up in the front while carpool is running. You also may not park and cross over to get your child or beckon your child. Safety is our number one and primary concern. Help us get 300+ students safely home.
Walkers
Walkers will meet the Crossing Guard in the 1st floor lobby afterschool.
Myschoolfees
MySchoolFees will open on September 1st this year. This will help ensure that all necessary schedule changes have been made before fees are paid.
Bumpus Bucs back in action
Our first football game is tomorrow, Thursday, August 20th. It is a jamboree. The following procedures must be adhered to:
- Tickets must be pre-purchased through GoFan (see instructions below).
- All tickets are $5.00 for both adults and children. We will not have a Sports Pass this year.
- We do not anticipate capacity to become an issue - but, we are operating with a 50% capacity maximum for HHS's Buccaneer stadium.
- Masks are required to be worn by all guests.
- Proper social distancing is expected of all guests (expect for those living within the same household). There will be additional sections available for seating.
- Only Bumpus football players/cheer and dance/coaches will be allowed on the track and field.
- AHSAA guidelines for the health and wellness of players, cheerleaders, and dance team will be followed at all times.
New Ticket Policy - Card and Mobile Payment ONLY - https://gofan.co/app/school/AL68127
For the 2020-2021 school year, Bumpus Athletics has a Card & Mobile Payment only ticketing policy at ALL athletic events. Fans are strongly encouraged to purchase digital tickets prior to arriving at the event.
