September 12 -16

We are up to something good at Hickory Flat!

From the Principal's Desk...

Good Afternoon!

September 11 will forever be a special day of remembrance. Today marks the 21st year since the attacks on our country. Each year, I read a special book that was written and illustrated by first graders at Masterson Elementary in Missouri. "September 12: We Knew Everything Would Be All Right" is a book that recognizes the hope and the unity of our nation following the tragic events. The book is read aloud here if you'd like to check it out. Your student may join the staff in wearing red, white, and blue tomorrow!

The Flat Family News this week has important information, including:

  • Grandparents Day: We have a Drop-In activity on Wednesday from 7:45 - 8:30 for our grandparents :)
  • HFE Science Fair: details regarding registration
  • and sweet pictures of some of Wildcats and families :)

We have 5 more school days before Fall Break! Let's make this a great week, together!!

Please complete your 2022-2023 Online Free & Reduced Meal Application.

We were fortunate that we have been able to provide meals at no cost to all students for the past few years; however, that federal waiver has ended. If you have previously qualified for free or reduced status or believe you may be eligible, we encourage you to complete a Free and Reduced Meal application as soon as possible ensure your benefits continue throughout the 2022-2023 school year.

Completing the application only takes a few minutes, yet the possible benefits for you your family are many. Qualifying families may be eligible for discounted fees for standard tests, as well as college scholarship opportunities.

The Free and Reduced Lunch Application can be completed online from the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus.

If you have questions regarding the school meal application process, please contact Erica Banon by email at erica.banon@henry.k12.ga.us.

Attendance Celebrations for August

We had a great time celebrating over 140 students who had perfect attendance in August. These students attended school every day and did not have any tardies or early check-outs.

Our August Perfect Attendance prize was either a Smencil

(a very cool pencil that smells delicious) or a 6-color pen!

A different prize will be awarded each month!

To be eligible for monthly prizes, students will need to attend school each day and have no tardy check-ins or early check-outs within that month.

We love our Grandparents! Join us for a Drop-In event this Wednesday!

We are up to something good...in math, too!

Hickory Flat has a new practice for our students this year: the math problem of the day! We are using this time to practice foundational skills that will enhance our mastery of grade-level standards and to practice those concepts that are challenging. This photo was taken in Ms. Guyton's 5th grade class as she and her students were having great mathematical conversation around their daily warm-up.
