LTISD Offering Temporary Online Learning Option
August 6, 2021
Dear Lake Travis ISD Parents and Guardians,
Taking into consideration Austin Public Health (APH) has elevated its COVID-19 Risk-based Guidelines to Stage 5 and after carefully reviewing your feedback in our recent ThoughtExchange, we have several important updates to share with you.
We recognize that you have many questions about the coming year. To help support your planning and your child’s return to school, we have posted our covid protocols titled “Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Instruction Plan” on our website.
Secondly, we will offer a temporary online learning option this fall for students in kindergarten through 6th grade only. Program criteria include but are not limited to:
Only currently eligible LTISD students can apply
Students will maintain enrollment in their home campus
Students must commit to attending the entire fall semester. Students will not be able to return to their home campus until January, 2022, at the earliest.
Students will require parent supervision and support during virtual school hours
Instruction will be delivered in both synchronous (teacher-led) and asynchronous (independent) learning formats
Extracurricular activities or other on-campus activities will not be available to virtual students
6th grade electives are limited to art and PE; students will not have access to on campus programs such as band, athletics, theater, etc.
The first 250 student applications received will be allowed into the virtual option; all requests will be time-stamped in the order received
The forms must be submitted per student, not per family
The program will be reevaluated and extended as necessary but we are only committing to the Fall, 2021, semester at this time.
Students who are accepted into the online learning option will begin classes on Monday, August 23. All other students are expected to report to their campus for in-person learning on Wednesday, August 18 as scheduled. If your student is attending school in person, no action is needed at this time.
Between 5:00 pm, Saturday, August 7 and noon, Wednesday, August 11, families who are interested in having their K-6 grade student attend classes online will have an opportunity to submit an application for enrollment. The application will be available in Skyward Family Access.
For more information about our online learning option opportunity, as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions and instructions on how to enroll your child, visit our Response to COVID-19 webpage. Please note, this page and supporting resources will continue to be updated as new information becomes available.
Lastly, as a reminder, Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order prohibits school districts from requiring anyone to wear a mask or other face covering. In alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Austin-Travis County Health Authority, APH strongly recommends that all individuals in schools mask when indoors (regardless of vaccination status) and outdoors, when in crowded settings or during activities that involve sustained close contact with others. While we recognize and respect personal choice, we also strongly encourage all staff, students and families to wear a mask while inside and on campus.
On behalf of our school board and administration, we look forward to welcoming you and your family to a safe and successful school year. We thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work through these times together.
