Book Fair
Let the book fair help your child avoid the “summer slide” in reading! It’s so important that they continue to build on this year’s success by reading 20 minutes each day. The fair will help your child’s imagination blossom and keep her reading this summer! Plus, you can expand the selection by visiting the fair online - free shipping with book orders of $25 or more!. Remember, tax will be added to all sales and the Phoenix sales tax is 8.6%. A good way to remember “for every dollar, bring a dime, you'll have enough every time".
There will be a few giveaways. Entry tickets may be earned by ROUNDING UP to benefit our PTSA’s new book vending machine and/or using one of the Scholastic recyclable bags given out at earlier fairs! Visit https://www.https://www.dvusd.org/sf-lmc for more information.
Finally, a few more volunteers are needed. Please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f054ca5ac29a6fc1-scholastic1#/ to see if there is a time slot that works best for you!

Weekly Message from the Founder of ALL THINGS EQ (Danna Evans):
Our motto for the week is:
I don't complain about what I can't change.
While complaining may give students something to bond over, there is no upside when the negativity interferes with the quality of their experiences. What's worse is complaining can become a habit.
"Repeated complaining rewires your brain...Over time, you find it's easier to be negative than to be positive, regardless of what's happening around you."
- Dr. Travis Bradberry
If you hear your child complaining, here are three easy steps:
- Listen and ask: "Do you need me to listen to what happened, or do you need help brainstorming a solution?"
- Set a limit: If they don't want a solution, set a time limit. "Sometimes complaining makes me feel better too, but not if I go on too long. Let's complain for one more minute, and then we can move on and make our day better."
- Focus on what's next: Focus on something positive you can do. By shifting to or planning a more pleasant activity, you send a clear message that a bad moment doesn't have to be a bad day.
A simple example:
"True, doing the dishes is gross and disgusting. I don't like doing the dishes either. Complaining can be fun for a bit, but it can also bum me out. Instead, let's talk about what we want to do when we finish the dishes."
