March
Principal's Message
February was packed with lots of school community activities none of which could have been successful with out the support of our wonderful teachers and parent community. Thank you to everyone who played a role in these successes. The PTA sponsored Valentines Friendship Dance was a huge success. Right after that we had a very successful Showcase/Open House event. The students enjoyed participating in all the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities with their families. We also had our LOVE challenge. The students' artistic expressions of what love is were quite heartwarming. Then we had the events supporting our week of Scholastic Book Fair, Bagels and Books and Movie Night. Book Fair sales totaled $6,141.77 excluding online sales. We hope to get that total early next week. Our sales have provided us with $2,827.05 to spend on new library books. Again, this is excluding what we earn from online sales. A special thank you to Dana Miller our Office Manager for stepping up, without her we would not have been able to have this great fundraiser for our library this year. Lastly, the PTA Nominating Committee reached out and were able to nominate new parents for the PTA Executive Board positions. At this time there is only one person per position. The official elections will be held on Thursday, March 14th.
March is also filled with lots of fun learning and community experiences. All of our TK-3 classes will be attending field trips to SSU. Our TK-1 classes will be a part of the Making and the Young Child event. This event is in collaboration with SSU and the Sonoma County Office of Education. Our 2nd and 3rd grade students will be engaged in both geology and chemistry activities to support their PBL unit. Our 4/5 classes recently had the opportunity to listen to the Santa Rosa Symphony as well as participate in activities in the Art Dept. and SSU Maker Space. We are so fortunate to have a unique relationship with SSU that affords us with opportunities that go well beyond what other schools are offered. In addition, our 2/3 classes will be going to the Fairfield Osborne Preserve to learn more about habitats and watershed the end of this month and first week in April.
Spring break is just around the corner. Students will have the week of March 18th thru March 22nd off. It is my hope that after this date no student will be out for family vacation time. Every day at school is an important one. Please show your student/s that you value their education and ensure they arrive on time and daily these last fifty-four days of school. The staff and I strive to make every day count for every student. Independent Study contracts will not be granted after the break.
When we return from Spring Break classes will plant the barrels that each class decorated as part of our school pride beautification project. We look forward to seeing the beautiful paint jobs on display!
