Principal's Message for the week:

Big picture
The weeks coming back from a break can often be long and difficult in terms of getting back in the groove of routine and the rigor of our curriculum. However, this week the energy here has been buzzing. A major part of the buzzing was all of our teachers getting excited about trying new things in their classrooms. There is nothing more exciting than having a teacher come up to me to share a new activity, instructional strategy or classroom structure that they have tried. That passion is extremely contagious and so motivating; so much so that I wish I could bottle it up and share it with others. Thank you for being open minded for trying new things and being passionate to try these new things. I know it can feel uncomfortable, but it, also continues to grow us as educators and make CFES the best that it can be!

Twitter Challenge! Let's learn from each other while we spread Kindness around like confetti! #Coltspride

Colts Pride in Action

As part of our purposeful work to design a school culture where our PRIDE is encouraged and celebrated, each week a staff member or group of staff members will be highlighted for demonstrating one aspect of P.R.I.D.E.

This week, we want to highlight Edie Kernodle for her innovative literacy stations. Operating effective, targeted, and organized literacy stations in 1st grade is quite a feat in of itself. However, try having more six different options for literacy stations and personalizing each pair of students center each day. I am tired, just typing it. These stations are purposeful, aligned to her whole group objective, and differentiated. Way to go!

PBIS tip of the week

"Stay positive, things aren't going to get better by being negative about."

Becky Bailey, author of Conscious Discipline, says that "Discipline is not something you do to children, it is something you develop within them." Reflect on this quote and consider how you will continue to help students develop appropriate behaviors at school. How can you continue to use Morning Meeting time to reinforce our Colt Code. How can this quote help you respond to students who misbehave?

Don't forget about trying out our Colt Tracker!

This link will, also, be in our handbook along with our flowchart!
