Tavia's Thoughts
Student Engagement & Student Voice
Schools create engagement when educators, as well as systems and structures support the conditions of:
Fun and Excitement: Students actively engaged and emotionally involved in their work.
Curiosity & Creativity: Being inquisitive and having a desire to learn new things.
Spirit of Adventure: Students ability to tackle challenges.
How are we doing with these three???
Habit 5: Seek First To Understand, Then To Be Understood

"Without student leaders, the STONE is no longer PAINTED ; it's colorful having student advisors"
Jackie and I had a great time chatting with the student voice leaders this week. Everyone was willing to share their ideas for change, likes, and dislikes. They are ready to help make some decisions and to speak for their peers. I can tell they have a sense of purpose, leadership and responsibility. Thanks for releasing them to talk.
Check out the article on student voice and what kids really think about school.
Emily’s Enthusiastic Information
Another great week at PSE is in the books! As you know, I've been reading about rigor and that is the focus of my POP this school year. I will be to sharing with you soon the walk through tool I'll be using when I come into your classroom. It is adapted from the Danielson framework. I hope all of you had a restful weekend that helps you achieve an amazing week! #teampse #studentsfirst
Maggie’s Moments
What a fantastic day of data teams on Thursday! You never fail to amaze me when you are discussing and analyzing progress of your students. As you continue this year to focus on student progress, I know that you will find having these same types of conversations about both reading and math will drive your instruction. Thank you for your dedication.
What “hooks” have you used this week in your instruction? I hope that you will be willing to share some of those ideas with the rest of us. I know that one team is planning to try some movie trailers next week during their mini lessons. How about you?
We are TEAM PSE and together our students will LEARN.
Hymer's Hype
Safety Patrol also starts next week. Please help encourage our fifth grade students as they begin these new leadership roles, and help them to encourage our other students, by being good models of leaders.
Jackies' Friendly FRC Facts
We had a great turn out for our Parent Volunteer Orientations last week! Wow!!! I am so pleased with the number of parents that are willing to provide this service to PSE. I have asked them to try to set up a schedule with you all in order to avoid interruptions and to protect instructional time. If you are not sure whether or not an adult is an approved volunteer check with me or Donna.
Remember..Backpack Program will start on Friday, September 11th.
Leader In Me, Leaders at PSE
I got the following email from Ashley Warren last week:
One of my leadership positions is “community service leader.” I have a group of 4 kids in this position, I let them come up with an organization to help. They chose the animal shelter and made the attached flyer to send home to our class—we are going to collect items to take to the shelter through September 25th.
I was tickled pink when I went to go talk to the class about their project. Why? The plans they have for monthly projects are out of this world!
