Principal's Message

Dear Duncan Creek Parents,

Our enrollment after Labor Day was 1,125 students. Our enrollment projection for the 2015-2016 school year was 1,123 students. We are excited be able to maintain our current staffing for the remainder of the school year.

Thank you for participating in Parent-Teacher conferences during the last week in September. This is an important time to communicate face-to-face with your child’s teacher. Conferences for the second semester will take place the last week of February. In addition to these designated dates, please contact your child’s teacher at any time to schedule a conference as needed.

The Gwinnett County Board of Education has called for a referendum on continuing the one-cent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for education for another five years. This E-SPLOST referendum will be on the county’s November 3rd ballot. This 1-cent sales tax will be on all retail sales in Gwinnett County. It is not a property tax. Everyone who makes a purchase in Gwinnett County, including visitors, contributes to the support of local schools. The E-SPLOST is not a new or additional tax but an extension of the one-percent tax already being collected on sales. Please take the time to go vote on November 3rd.

The Teacher of the Year selected to represent Duncan Creek Elementary is Dayna Alkire-Barry. Mrs. Alkire is our fantastic PE teacher who has been at Duncan Creek since the school’s opening. She will now participate in the selection process for Teacher of the Year for Gwinnett County Public Schools. Congratulations to Mrs. Alkire for what she does each and every day for her students. She is a great colleague and teacher leader. I’m sure you will join me in wishing her the best of luck as she goes on in the selection process.

As a safety reminder, please refrain from all cell phone use in the car rider line before and after school. This is important to the safety of our students and staff. Also, the front doors of the school are locked at 4:30pm every day. We do not have personnel to monitor the lobby after this time. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thank you for all that you do to support Duncan Creek Elementary, your child(ren), and the teachers and staff.

Technology Retrofit

We are excited to announce GCPS has just completed our technology retrofit! We were fortunate to receive new computers in our labs. Our media center computers were upgraded to mini student laptops. Teacher laptops, printers and copiers were also purchased and with the help of PTA and school funds, we are able to provide at least 3 student computers in each homeroom. We have 2 mobile carts with 8 computers on each for Specials teachers to check out and use for instruction. Each classroom also has a document camera.

In November our second wave of upgrades will start. Each classroom will receive a new projector as well as a teacher voice enhancement device. Our broadcast studio will receive all new equipment and our media center will get a SmartBoard with projector as well as a video conferencing unit. E-Splost funds help with many of these purchases throughout the county so please take time to vote on November 3rd!
