High School NHS Hosts Blood Drive

By: Elena Gentry

In January, thirty-six brave souls volunteered to donate blood as part of the high school NHS blood drive in conjunction with Vitalarit. Each person donated around a pint of blood, which raised twenty-eight total pints of blood by the time the drive was over.

Fun Blood Facts:

Did you know that people who donate blood are actually at a lower risk for heart attack and diabetes than non-donors?

Did you know that a single donation of blood can help save up to 3 people?

Someone in the US needs blood every two seconds.

Tiger Varsity Knowledge Bowl Goes to State!

Tiger Varsity Knowledge Bowl won the latest regional match at Adams State University and is going to state! It was a tight day, and Sargent was right behind their tails after a few rocky rounds, but because of how far they were ahead in the beginning they beat The Farmers by three points! We all believe in our Varsity Knowledge Bowl team, and we wish them good luck at the Colorado State University match this March 16th and 17th. Do we have the brains to beat the best of the state? Guess we'll have to find out! For now, we wish them good luck and are proud that we can say we're the smartest 2A school in the valley!

Grand Opening of the Upper Rio Grande Bistro

The Upper Rio Grande Bistro's food is a whole lot better than the Field House Cafeteria. There are more options for lunch and breakfast than we had. New meal options include: a grab and go lunch option, a regular hot lunch option, a make your own sandwich option, and a salad bar option. The salad bar includes: crunchy carrots, bacon bits, croutons, tomatoes, and many different salad dressings to build an amazing salad.

Students can easily view each day's meal options by viewing the menu at https://sites.google.com/urtigers.co/rgbistro/home. The menu can also be found by navigating to the home page, dncsd.org, clicking on departments, and then clicking on the "food service" link.

Additionally, the Upper Rio Grande Bistro is more open than the Field House Cafeteria. After students receive their meal, they can either choose to sit on the couches by the fireplace, or in the other seating arangments such as tall chairs, tables, and booths. We are excited and grateful for this amazing addition to the new school!

Tiger Boy's Basketball

This year's boys basketball team has put in a lot of effort. As of January 29th the JV has lost five games and won one game. The Varsity team has won three games and lost eight games. On January 24th, the Varsity Boy's team gave us a real nail biter of a game as they took on The Sargent Farmers. The final score was 42-44 in favor of the Farmers. Excellent work, Boys, keep digging deep! *Basketball Photo Credit: Debbie Parra
