Thursday, May 11th, 6th and 7th graders can join their classmates in taking over the gym & lobby at PS 28 from 6-8pm! The PTA will have board games, chess in the lobby, volleyball & basketball in the gym. There will be a special guest, Victoria Sneden, who will lead a small group through a body weight circuit! This is a fun way to move your body and maybe catch yourself in friendly competition!

Please submit your child's permission slip to the homeroom teacher by Monday May 8th, admission is free. Your child was provided with a permission slip on Tuesday, May 2 to take home.

The school kindly requests that you maintain your information up-to-date. A lot of the district and school information is sent via email. It is very important to maintain a parent email on file since this is a mode of communication that is mostly utilized. Keeping your phone contact and address is crucial. We rely on this information to communicate with parents and guardians. Please contact the main office to make any changes or to add the necessary information to the student records. PS28 was selected to participate with the U.S. Department of Education sponsored study- Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). This study is scheduled to occur in schools across the country.

Two classrooms from PS28’s grade 8 students will take the assessment digitally on equipment supplied by the TIMSS 2023 Team. The assessment date was changed to June 8,2023.

The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) provides reliable and timely trend data on the mathematics and science achievement of U.S. students compared to that of students in other countries. TIMSS data have been collected from students at grades 4 and 8 every 4 years since 1995, with the United States participating in every administration of TIMSS. TIMSS Advanced studies the achievement in advanced mathematics and physics of students in their final year of secondary school. It has been conducted in 1995, 2008, and 2015, with the United States participating in 1995 and 2015. TIMSS and TIMSS Advanced are sponsored by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) and conducted in the United States by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

The school's Council of Challengers will create a series of posters to place in the school promoting positive behaviors on social media.

In order for students to learn and achieve their fullest potential, it is critical that they are in school, on time, and engaged in the learning process. Research shows that student absences impact a child’s ability to succeed in school. In addition, there is evidence that chronic absenteeism from school is a primary cause of low academic achievement and a powerful predictor of a student’s risk of dropping out of school later on.

The district has updated and modified the curriculum as mandated by the state standards. The curriculum is availeble by visiting the JCBOE.org site under the Curriculum and Instruction Department.

PS28 participates in the district's sport after-school program. This is available to students in middle school. Students must try out and complete the application process to be able to participate in the sports teams.

PS28 is presently preparing for its music after school music program. Students will work with their teachers in the areas of band and choir. We can't wait to see what they have for us.

The visual arts department is the process of idenetifying and working with students that demonstrate artistic abilities and a willingness to further their techniques. The art department plans to participate in various competitions and activities which are available for all students.
