Educate, Accelerate, Graduate! August 2023
LOA STUDENT HANDBOOK
***Please review new Student Handbook for new ID, dress code, and discipline policies for the 2023-2024 school year
1st Day @ LOA
Our doors will open at 8:15 on August 15th.
We do not have early schedule pick up. Schedules are handed out as students arrive for school. We will have staff in the hall assisting students in reading their schedules and getting to class. They will also receive their school IDs. The first day can be a little confusing. We do our best to help our new students acclimate to our different style of scheduling and teaching. If your student has any questions or concerns, please let them know to ask their teacher or office staff.
Please make sure your student has reviewed the Hays CISD Student Handbook for updates that pertain to this year. School ID’s are required daily.
Welcome our New Counselor - Ms. Williams!
I am Vicki Williams, your new school counselor. I come to Hays with five years of experience in counseling, three years in special education, and four years as a high school English teacher. I am a firm believer that education is the great equalizer. I also believe that finding ways to help students overcome life’s obstacles is the most essential role I can play as a school counselor. I am excited to work with our Owls and support each student in their success. I enjoy learning, water color painting, trying new ideas on my cricut machine, traveling, reading, and watching movies, as well as many other activities. My son is going to college this fall at Texas A&M University to study Agriculture Science and pursue a career in the military. He, and our dog, Duke, are my heart and life. I am a US Air Force veteran, a mom, a dog mom, and I am passionate about counseling! I truly believe the work I do is my life’s calling.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a bit! I look forward to meeting each of you and helping you in your journey. Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have or if you need support.
The goal of Live Oak Academy is to provide a positive, supportive, learning environment with high expectations for students. We will assist all students in becoming life-long learners and productive citizens.
We, the faculty and staff, assume all students have a strong desire to obtain an education. Students will demonstrate responsible behavior and a positive attitude at Live Oak Academy. If all students fulfill these expectations, neither the students nor staff members will need to be concerned with disciplinary measures. Thus, everyone can concentrate on academic achievement.
Students will be expected to show respect and consideration for their fellow students, faculty, and staff at Live Oak Academy.
Students will be expected to make measurable academic improvement and progress at all times (minimum 4.5 credits every semester).
Students will be expected to communicate and cooperate with fellow students, faculty, and staff in a responsible and respectable manner.
Students will be expected to have good attendance and be on time. Students should arrive prior to the start of their scheduled start time.
Time management is a very important student responsibility.
NEW - Student ID
Student ID's will be handed out the first day of school. The district's dress code includes proper display of the student’s campus identification card (ID). All students are expected to wear the campus-issued SmartTag ID while on campus. The ID must be visible on the student, this includes on campus, school events, and district transportation. Student ID may not be tampered with (intentional destruction, defacing, removal of information, or stickers). A replacement/lost ID will cost $5.00 per ID.
How is my student progressing at LOA?
