Terry Fox Run for Eli and Chase!

Elginburg and District Public School is proud to take part in this year’s 41st Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Last year our community helped raise $2130 for cancer research. How incredible!

Sadly, we have two students who have battled cancer in the past few years. There names are Eli and Chase! These two boys and their families will be at our outdoor assembly at 9:10 on the 7th of October. The school will watch as they do a survivors walk around our track. We know how hard these boys have fought and want to acknowledge them and their families!

This year our goal is $1000. We will be holding our Run/Walk on Thursday October 7th.

Please help show your support by donating.

Simply use the link http://www.terryfox.ca/ElginburgandDistrictPS.

Students can even get involved too by creating their own fundraising page under their school.

Thank you for your supporting our school in the fight against cancer and continuing Terry’s legacy! #terryfoxschoolrun @terryfoxfoundation.

Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt Day (September 30th) is a day where we commemorate the residential school experience and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families. On this day, we are encouraged to learn more about the history of these schools and create meaningful discussions about the effects of residential schools, and the legacy they have left behind. We can do this by raising awareness, providing truthful education, and showing survivors that they matter. Participants are challenged to keep the ongoing process of reconciliation alive and honour the voices of Indigenous peoples, every day.

On September 30th our school will join each other in a virtual assembly to honour our Indigenous communities, read books to commemorate their past and use our critical thinking to discuss the past and the future.

Our whole school loves WRITING Bursts!

Join our School Council!

It's that time of year! Parent Council elections for Executive Positions are due today!

The first Parent Council Meeting of the 2020-21 school year is Monday, September 20th at 6:00 pm. The meeting will take place online in order to comply with health and safety measures. Join us and have a voice in the EDPS community!

Please email duncanm@limestone.on.ca to submit nominations. Nominations are anonymous and you can nominate yourself or someone else for a position. The person you nominate must be present at the online meeting. Your nomination does not count as a vote; you must be present to vote. Nominations are due by 4:00 on Monday, September 20th.

Below are a description of the responsibilities and duties of each executive position:

CHAIR - chief administrator of Parent Council - creates meeting agendas, liaisons between parents, school, administration and staff. Coordinates and supports volunteers, publishes newsletters, chairs Council meetings, keeps in touch with all coordinators.

VICE CHAIR - Duties of Chair could be split with Vice-Chair if deemed appropriate by Council. Vice Chair chairs any Council meeting that the Chair is unable to attend. The Vice Chair will also take meeting notes in the event that the Secretary is not available. If Co-Chairs are elected than the two parties will share the duties.

TREASURER - duties include handling all council money, produces financial statements/reports and presents these at monthly meetings.

SECRETARY - duties include attendance at Council meetings, recording minutes at monthly meetings and distribution to appropriate parties, maintains records as necessary.

And while we don't vote on the following position, MEMBERS AT LARGE play a very important role. Every parent/guardian is welcome to attend any and all Parent Council Meetings throughout the year!

MEMBERS AT LARGE - along with the executive, Parent Council relies on the parent community to come to meetings and have a say in issues that affect our students. We need parent representation to vote on how our fundraising efforts are allocated and to volunteer at various events and initiatives throughout the school year. Everyone is welcome!

On Monday, September 20th you can click the link in the box below to join our meeting! We truly hope to see you. There will be a question and answer session during the meeting for you to ask anything!

Don't Forget to use the COVID Screening Tool each morning!
