Second Grade Homework
Things Parents Need to Know
Read Every Day
It is important that you read to your child and listen to your child read.
That is why I have provided your child with books to read as well as a Poetry Folder. Each week, a new poem is added to it. Look below for more information about HOMEWORK.
Reading Folder
This is how your child's reading folder looks. It should be brought home every night so your child can read with you and to YOU. The HOMEWORK inside should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
What's Inside?
There will be a Poetry Folder, a Word Book and books inside your child's folder. Your child should read the books out loud to you each night. This should take no more than 10 minutes.
The Poetry Folder and Word Book
Reading poetry increases reading fluency. First read the new poem to your child. Then read the poem at the same time as your child. Then have your child read the poem to you. The Word Book contains sight words your child is learning to read and spell. He/she should be able to show you how to practice spelling the words. This should take no more than 5-10 minutes.
A Note About After-School Programs
The homework in this Reading Bag will not be completed in the after-school programs. This homework is an opportunity for you to help your child become a better reader. Read to your child. Read with your child. Listen to your child read.
Together, we can help your child become a better reader.
