The Latest
We are wrapping up the 1st Quarter of the Year on Friday, October 30th. Please be sure your child is in contact with their teachers to take care of any assignments that still may be lingering. Also, please note: the Phoenix Gradebook (ParentVue) is the official gradebook for LCPS.
We cannot hold our in-person "Meet the Teacher" event this year, but I have asked our teachers to be available between 10 AM and 12 PM on Tuesday, November 3rd for brief meetings with families who may have questions about their child's progress. Please reach out over email to teachers directly to schedule and arrange appointments.
Just a reminder: Beginning on Wednesday, November 4, secondary schools will follow the ABAB schedule. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be A Days, and Wednesdays and Fridays will be B Days. Specific times of synchronous time and Learning Lab will remain unchanged.
The first day of the Second Quarter, Wednesday, November 4, will be a B Day. We will update the Heritage Distance Learning Schedule prior to the start of the Second Quarter.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership in your child's learning!

Adjusting of Assignment Expectations
I included this in the last Update, but I thought it deserved repeating, especially, as we wrap up on quarter and transition to the next.
- Heritage staff have been having an ongoing discussion about workload and being cognizant of the fact that students are feeling overwhelmed. Teachers have adjusted or are adjusting workload expectations. Please note: Dual Enrollment courses are guided by NVCC and are subject to their guidance, but the Heritage DE teachers are part of our ongoing conversations.
- Due dates should not fall on the weekends.
- Assignments only being due on days they see the students (i.e. A Day assignments will only be due on A days). On November 4th, that will become the expectation.
- During the rest of the 1st Quarter, we have asked everyone to limit the amount of work they assign to be due the next day (i.e. work assigned Tuesday to be due Wednesday or work assigned Thursday to be due Friday) to around 20 minutes. With the change to the ABAB schedule, this should not be as much of an issue, but we will still monitor the length and types of assignments.
AP Testing Deadline is Near
Attention AP Students, we’ve got important news and tasks for you!
- Please JOIN each AP Class in which you are enrolled by using the Join Codes given to you by your AP classroom teacher(s). See your AP teacher(s) with questions. As a reminder, students cannot access the CollegeBoard AP resources if they have not joined the AP course within CollegeBoard using the specific section code. Joining your class within CollegeBoard is also the only way that students may order an exam, however, whether or not you plan on taking the exam, you should still join.
- *Update This Year* - Students will have the ability to change their own testing status (Testing vs Not-Testing) through CollegeBoard. (This is a change from last year when your status was adjusted for you after payment.) CollegeBoard is waiving the fee for unused tests THIS YEAR ONLY and you can get a refund in May for any test you did not take. This means there is NO risk to signing up by the November deadline! If you're considering taking the exam at all, go into CollegeBoard and select ’Yes’ today.
- Register now for your AP test in May! Students, parents, or guardians are responsible for the cost of the AP exam. Each exam is $86.00, with the exception of AP Seminar and AP Research, which is $134.00. Heritage High School Payment Portal is open and will close on November 6, 2020 at 5:00 PM. No exceptions! Within the portal, students will need to select the name of the AP test(s) they wish to take. Please take care in selecting the AP test name!

Senior Photo Make-up Day Information
Dear Parents and Class of 2021:
We at Victor O’Neill Studios, your school’s official school photographer, are excited to see you on the following date(s) for your senior portraits at the school:
October 26
Due to safety concerns during the COVID-19 crisis, we will no longer be mailing appointment notices home. It is safer to communicate with everyone through email and allows us to control the number of appointments throughout the day. Instead of pre-assigning a time for your senior portrait, we are offering you the opportunity to select your time through our new scheduling software. Please sign up for your session time here:
pickatime.com/vosphoto/heritagehs
For the yearbook portraits, boys will wear their own shirt, tie and jacket and girls will wear a nice top for the yearbook pose. If you wish to wear the photographer provided tuxedo, drape or cap and gown, please note that this will be shared clothing and you must bring the signed waiver with you to the session. Please note that the tuxedos and drapes will be shared with other seniors while we are there. Everyone photographed will be featured in the yearbook whether they are wearing the tux, drape, or their own attire. We will still take casual and cap and gown photos at this session using the photographer provided gowns and we will have another opportunity to do the cap and gown photos in the spring when the graduation gowns are distributed. We will have the following modifications in place to ensure a safe environment for students, parents and our staff:
- We will have signage in place to encourage social distancing while students wait for their turn at each camera.
- Photographers will not come within physical contact of any student and will stay behind the camera.
- Photographers and assistants will be in gloves and masks while students are present.
- All of our staff will have their temperature checked before reporting to work each day.
- Anyone entering the room where portraits are taking place will have their temperature checked.
- Any shared clothing will be sanitized using steamers between students.
- Masks must be worn by anyone entering the building, only to be removed immediately prior to having portraits taken.
- Props will be sanitized between uses.
We appreciate your cooperation with the following recommendations:
• We recommend that anyone with underlying health conditions not accompany the high school senior to the school for their portraits if at all possible.
• Masks will be provided to any customers desiring one.
• Give each other space and follow the social distancing guidelines
• Wash and sanitize your hands often. We will have sanitation stations throughout our portrait areas for your convenience.
• Most importantly, if you feel sick, have a fever, are coughing, have difficulty breathing, or if in the last two weeks you been in close contact with a person with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19, please stay home
• We strongly encourage you to reschedule your appointment if you or anyone in your family is feeling unwell.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to seniors@vosphoto.com.
