PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
Your student is about to embark on something that will be new, challenging, exciting and extremely rewarding. Elkins Pointe Middle School will have an i-Ready Challenge over the winter break. The goal of the challenge is to help students maintain and improve their literacy skills while school is on break.
i-Ready is an online integrated literacy program which personalizes learning for all students. This literacy platform includes the main common core reading domains: phonics, phonological awareness, high frequency words, vocabulary, comprehensive of literature, and comprehension of informational text. The online lessons provide engaging instruction on key skills at your student’s Lexile Level. Students can participate in this challenge using their laptop or a home device; Wi-Fi is required and students logon with their Fulton County student credentials.
As an incentive to our students, we are adding a little excitement to the challenge. Students who complete the i-Ready Challenge will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of four prizes. The drawing will take place in January 2018, and your child will automatically be entered upon completion of the challenge minutes.
We appreciate our parents partnering with us to increase the literacy skills of your children. The details of the i-Ready Challenge are below. Ask your child to show i-Ready on their laptops or on your home device over the weekend!
Stay safe, warm, and enjoy the snow, Titans!

Learn to Love ♥ Lexile Levels
Next @ Parent University...
"Learn to Love ♥ Lexile Levels!"
Media Specialist Jennifer Newman and Data Specialist Bronwyn Snell will FB LIVE video information on Lexile Levels in the Library and explain how they pertain to the Georgia Milestones, CCRPI, the GA State Standards. This parent training will be posted to the Parent Resource tab on the Elkins Pointe website.
Stay tuned for "Learn to Love ♥ Lexile Levels!"
The Lexile® Framework for Reading is a scientific approach to measuring both reading ability and the text complexity of reading materials on the same developmental scale.
Educators use Lexile measures to match students with text, putting them on the path to success in school, college, and careers.
Lexile measures make it easy for educators to:
- Personalize learning.
- Measure student growth.
- Communicate with parents about their child’s progress.
Answer: The Lexile score is provided for students on their Georgia Milestones Assessment results on the ELA assessment. For further reading, please refer to the www.gadoe.org site.
Question: How will my child know which library books are best suited for their Lexile Measure?
Answer: In the Media Center, most of the fiction books have a small, colored round sticker on the spine of the book that indicates the Lexile Range. All your child needs to know is their range and then match it up to the color on the book’s spine. You find their range by adding 50 to their reported Lexile Measure and then subtracting 100 from the reported Lexile Measure. This range represents the boundaries between the easiest reading material that still challenges and the hardest level at which he/she can read independently.
For example, Susie’s Individual Student Report shows her Lexile Measure is 450L. Her range would be 350L – 500L. Books and other reading material should stay in this range to ensure a 75% reading comprehension level.

Titans Got Talent Expo! - 2/12
GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER because the Elkins Pointe Talent Expo is coming to a Stage near you … The PTSA and the Drama Club are proud to present “Titans’ Got Talent!” for a one-night-only Show on Friday, April 13th! This is a talent "showcase", NOT a contest, so don't be shy and join in on the FUN!
Talent/Act submission forms will be available soon in Titan Talk and on the PTSA website. Students wanting to participate will be required to turn-in this "Act Proposal" Form on Feb. 21/22 at the after-school meetings to go over the details of the act and what will be needed on stage for the performance. In addition, if you have dreams of being the Show’s Emcee, announcing each act with your own flair, you will have the opportunity to audition for that role at the Feb 21/22 meetings.
So, please start brainstorming what talents you would like to share on stage with your Elkins Pointe community at the Talent Expo, and have your proposal ready for submission by February 21st. Any questions, please direct to Jennifer Rodman, jcrodman@yahoo.com.
