WELCOME TO ARLETA'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER!

We’re so glad to have you as part of our school community!

This weekly newsletter is developed and sent in partnership between school administration and the PTA. If you have information you'd like shared in the newsletter, please email it to ArletaSchoolPTA@gmail.com. Keep scrolling for the latest.

PRINCIPAL MESSAGE

Dear Families,

I’m very excited to let you know that starting Monday, March 1, our Limited In Person Instruction (LIPI) program will begin at Arleta. We will have a total of 16 students at school two days a week for a total of 4 hours. While it is a far cry from what we think of as normal, I’m very excited to have some students in the building and I know the teachers working with them are too. Our LIPI plan includes extensive safety protocols that have been approved by PPS and the State of Oregon.

We have begun planning for the return of more students in a Hybrid model, currently expected to begin by April 12. Bargaining between the district and our employee groups is underway and we will let you know more about the model and your options as we learn the details.

On February 12 Portland Public Schools sent all of our families a survey about the Hybrid model and whether or not you would want your child to participate in Hybrid instruction. As of today we have had 54% of you respond to the survey but we would like to see at least 80% of you respond. If you still have the link from February 12 please take a few minutes to reply. If you do not have the link you may contact research@pps.net to receive a new link. It would be very helpful to hear from all families. You are not committing yourself to any particular path but the information is very helpful for our planning.

Thank you.

John Horn

Principal

BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENTS

"Dear Arleta families,

We want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to all of our celebrations all month long for Black History Month! It has been so amazing to see our community come together to uplift and celebrate Black history and Black excellence, especially during these unprecedented times. We express our deepest appreciation to our speakers Aidan Carter, Asukulu Songolo, and Arieanna Morehead for inspiring us to take action and push for racial justice not just this month, but every day! Thank you to all of our students, families, and community members who've submitted artwork, videos, and resources that we've shared on our website. If you missed our virtual assembly on Tuesday, here is the link to watch.

You have all made this month very special and one we'll never forget.

In solidarity,

Timisha Wilson, Aud Manansala, Kelly Greenberg, and Noah Johnson-Greenough

Black History Month Coordinators"

PTA NOMINATING COMMITTEE NEEDS YOU

**CALL TO ACTION** The PTA is looking for three or more community members to join a Nominating Committee to help recruit board members for next year. Parents, Teachers, Staff, Community Members, can you give 3-4 hours of your time between now and the end of April for a couple virtual meetings and outreach? No experience necessary, and this would be a HUGE help! Please email if you are interested or want to learn more - ArletaSchoolPTA@gmail.com

NEXT WEEK SAY THANKS TO OUR CLASSIFIED AND NON-REPRESENTED STAFF!

Classified and non-represented staff help to keep Arleta clean, fed, organized, healthy, and assist students and teachers, and next week PPS has recognized it as APPRECIATION WEEK in their honor. Please take a moment to tell them how much you appreciate them and their work to support our school community!

Please note that the survey must be completed in one sitting. Once you have finished, please press the blue ‘submit’ button to complete the survey.

The survey is available in all 5 PPS major languages and will be available for families until March 19th. Click the Successful Schools Survey Flyers link below to view in other languages. Once you sign up, just go to smile.amazon.com to do your usual Amazon shopping. While there is no app, you can create a shortcut on your phone by going to smile.amazon.com in your browser, tap the Share button, then tap Add to Homescreen.

3. Donate your redeemable cans and bottles to Arleta through Bottle Drop. Email arletabottledrop@gmail.com to request some blue bags. (Arleta pays a fee for the bags, so let's fill them to the top!)
