Week 2, Term 1, Friday 11 February

principal's message

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers

A huge welcome back to Onekawa School for 2022! I also wish to welcome the thirty new students who have started at school; I'm sure you are going to love your time at Onekawa School!

We have had a wonderful start to the year despite the challenges of the covid red traffic light setting. A MASSIVE thanks to our Year 4-6 children who are required to wear masks indoors as part of the government mandate. Teachers have been providing many opportunities for children to be outside throughout the day. Kia kaha children... I'm very proud of you!

Please note on your calendars that school will be closed on Friday 11 March for a Teacher Only Day. Staff will be taking part in a 'structured literacy' professional development. We started the journey of structured literacy last year and have been impressed with our children's progress. In next week's newsletter we will feature our 'structured literacy' development and show you why it is so effective.

Today's newsletter features several action photos showing the many different activities taking place this week across the school. Enjoy!

Have a wonderful weekend Whanau :-)

Teacher only day - Friday 11 March

School will be closed on Friday 11 March for a teacher only day.

Our staff will be participating in professional development around 'structured literacy' - a focus the school has had for the last two years.

'Schools Out', which is based at Onekawa School. will be open should parents require child care.

Free and Healthy School lunches

In a word, the free and healthy school lunches are delicious!

We have one provider this year - 'The Food Company'.

The lunches are available for all children and the feedback from them has been excellent.

We are very grateful to be included in the Free and Healthy Lunches programme again this year.

updated details

We have noticed that there are some details on our school data base that are out of date.

On Wednesday next week we will be sending home with children the contact details we have on file for your child.

Please check that the details we have are correct. If there are any changes, write them on the sheet and return it it school as soon as possible.

Gallipoli Road Carpark

Please avoid using the school carpark on Gallipoli Road between the hours of 8:30-9:15am and 2:30-3:15pm.

We host resource teachers that work across Napier schools and need access to our carpark. Our support staff also struggle to find a carpark in the mornings
